Quality Assurance Director

Develops, implements, and coordinates, through support staff and lower echelon managers, product assurance program to prevent or eliminate defects in new or existing products. Typically reports to Quality Control Top Officer and Quality Assurance Manager reports to this position. NOTE--For hospitals, please see Quality Assurance Head Hospitals.: Analyzes, evaluates, and presents information concerning factors, such as business situations, production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends, and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of management team. Suggests and debates alternative methods and procedures in solving problems and meeting changing market opportunities. Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating procedures, and goals. Develops initial and subsequent modifications of product designs to delineate areas of responsibility, personnel requirements, and operational procedures within program, according to and consistent with company goals and policies. Evaluates contents of reports from product assurance program department heads and confers with top management personnel preparatory to formulating fiscal budget for product assurance program. Conducts management meetings with product design department heads to establish, delineate, and review program organizational policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments, and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives. Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures. Visits and confers with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, capacity of vendor to meet orders, and vendor quality standards. Confers with engineers about quality assurance of new products designed and manufactured products on market to rectify problems. Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.

Utilization Review/Quality Assurance Director

Serves as an information coordinator for the hospital-wide quality assurance program. Directs development of monitors, including generic screens, to assess the quality of care provided to patients.: Supports the overall quality assurance reporting system to assure that information is being channeled to appropriate oversight committees. Provides consultation to health care providers as needed to facilitate problem-focused studies of patient care, which may include advice and support for clinical/legal implications of quality issues. May assume Risk Management responsibilities. May supervise several employees.

Manager Quality Assurance

Manages, plans, coordinates, and directs quality control program designed to ensure continuous production/service consistent with established standards. Manages the development and analysis of statistical data and specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy. This is typically the second level of supervision and a Quality Control Supervisor/Administrator may report to this position; however, in smaller organizations, this position may be the first level of supervision.: Formulates and maintains quality control objectives, and coordinates objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other managers to maximize quality and reliability and to minimize costs. Manages, through intermediate personnel, workers engaged in activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, services, and products. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress reports, etc., in order to inform management of current status or work activities. Plans, promotes, and organizes training activities related to quality and reliability. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. May investigate customer complaints regarding quality and make appropriate adjustments.

Medical Quality Assurance Coordinator

Interprets and implements quality assurance standards in clinical area or hospital to ensure quality care to patients. Ensures appropriate care is provided to patients. Reviews quality assurance standards, studies existing policies and procedures, and interviews personnel and patients to evaluate effectiveness of quality assurance program. May report to Quality Assurance Head Hospital or a similar high-level position. Position typically requires a bachelor's degree in the field of nursing.: Serves as a professional resource to nursing staff. Writes quality assurance policies and procedures. Reviews and evaluates patients' medical records, applying quality assurance criteria. Selects specific topics for review, such as problem procedures, drugs, high volume cases, high risk cases, or other factors. Compiles statistical data and writes narrative reports summarizing quality assurance findings. May review patient records, applying utilization review criteria, to determine need for admission and continued stay in hospital. May oversee personnel engaged in quality assurance review of medical records.

Quality Assurance Team Leader

Assists quality assurance supervisor in coordinating and monitoring activities of workers engaged in inspecting and testing assembled motor vehicles, components, and parts, as vehicles and subassemblies proceed through stages of assembly process, applying knowledge of quality assurance standards and procedures: confers with supervisor and reviews assembly specifications and production schedules. Assigns workers to work stations and monitors department activities. Interprets standards and procedures, and assists workers in resolving technical problems. Reports unresolved problems to supervisor. Demonstrates tools, equipment, and work aids used in performing quality assurance tasks. May attend management meetings to represent work group and record minutes of meeting. May conduct work group (team) meetings to relay management information to workers, and solicit response to work-related problems. May perform duties of absent workers to maintain work schedules.

Medical Quality Assurance Head

Supervises and coordinates activities of quality assurance to ensure patient quality care and evaluates effectiveness of quality assurance policies and procedures to enhance standards and quality of service. : Interprets and implements quality assurance standards in hospital to ensure quality care to patients. Ensures appropriate care is provided to patients. Reviews quality assurance standards, studies existing hospital policies and procedures, and interviews hospital personnel and patients to evaluate effectiveness of quality assurance program. Writes quality assurance policies and procedures. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. Analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and may allocate operating budgets funds. Reviews and evaluates patients' medical records, applying quality assurance criteria. Selects specific topics for review, such as problem procedures, drugs, high volume cases, high-risk cases, or other factors. Compiles statistical data and writes narrative reports summarizing quality assurance findings. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. May review patient records, applying utilization review criteria, to determine need for admission and continued stay in hospital. May oversee personnel engaged in quality assurance review of medical records.

Quality Assurance Engineer

Plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes, materials, products, and/or business systems. Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation relative to the organization's quality management system. Ensures compliance of organization's products and processes. Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality data. Assures that products leaving the manufacturing or development organization are effective and free from defects or operational problems or errors.: Tests and assesses the effectiveness, accuracy, or safety of new products based on existing safety standards or performance guidelines. Verifies the accuracy or performance of the product and troubleshoots the correction of any problems or issues. Tests the product, using it both as recommended and also as not intended. Thinks of how consumers may use the product incorrectly to reduce liability and other legal issues for the organization. Discusses new products to be tested with the development team and the manufacturing group. Meets with the production team to share results and recommendations. Maintains a working relationship with key customer procurement organizations to the benefit of the customer. Ensures supplier products shipped to customers meet applicable organizational and contractual requirements. Possesses creativity and understanding of the product and the goals of the company. Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry. May assume responsibility for testing the item under various working conditions or for verifying the information that the item provides in the case of computer software programs. May give feedback on the user-friendly or unfriendly aspects of the product. May provide ideas for modifications and improvements.

Software Quality Assurance Supervisor

Leads, coordinates, and trains a team of Software Quality Assurance Testers responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining manual and automated quality assurance testing methodologies and systems to ensure the accuracy and stability of software applications.: Develops, implements, and monitors tests of software for adherence to quality assurance standards. Supervises testing processes and products for the QA team. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure that quality testing standards are met on tested products. Assigns staff as required to accomplish tasks as workload redistributes across assigned functions. Reports issues, status, resolutions, and problems to Quality Management and Engineering, as well as other departments deemed necessary. Assesses and adjusts tools and equipment for assigned personnel, functions, and tasks. Reviews quality assurance schedules to ensure deliverable time tables are met. Provides necessary documentation to assure that established standards of quality are met. Assists Software Quality Assurance Manager in trending data for various QA programs.

Software Quality Assurance Tester

Develops, implements, and maintains manual and automated quality assurance testing methodologies and systems to ensure the accuracy and stability of software applications. Prepares test designs based on documented requirements and interviews with Project Management and Development teams. : Recommends methodologies and software for automated testing and defect tracking. Develops regression, quality assurance, and validation tests and plans. Prepares queries to access databases. Searches source code as needed. Executes manual tests. Communicates application errors in a clear and concise manner. Analyzes results, draws conclusions from test results, and makes recommendations. Ensures that no defective products are moved to production.
