Pulmonary Medicine Physician

Specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the lung and chest cavity. Treats disorders such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia, cancer, and sleep disorders.: Performs special procedures including exercise pulmonary testing, fiber-optic bronchoscopy, pleural biopsy/chest tap, preoperative evaluation, pulmonary function testing (PFT's), pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine, influenza vaccine, arterial blood gas analysis (ABG's), ventilation and perfusion lung scan, interpretation of the tuberculosis (TB) skin test, and sleep studies.

Rehabilitation Medicine Physician

Specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic disabilities and with the restoration of normal functioning to those disabled with muscle, bone, or nervous problems. Provides help in rehabilitating patients disabled by acute and chronic pain or musculoskeletal ailments affecting the motor functions of the body caused by muscle and limb disorders, stroke aftereffects, and other crippling conditions.: Tests patients in areas such as muscle strength, degree of joint mobility, breathing capacity, and muscular coordination. Provides assistance in the areas of pain relief, improvement or maintenance of functions, such as strength and mobility, and training in the most effective method of performing essential activities. Prescribes therapeutic modes of treatment, such as exercise, ice, heat, massage, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, and functional training. May prescribe antibiotics, psychological counseling, occupational therapy, and a variety of other treatments that may be used in concert to help the patient achieve the fullest possible life.

Occupational Medicine Physician

Specializes in the treatment of work-related diseases and injuries that occurred at work.: Develops and implements an occupational health program at a hospital or clinic setting or within established clinical groups. Examines patient and develops a patient care plan based on evaluation. Reviews reports of patient's general physical condition, reactions to medications, and medical history. Conducts physical examinations, program design, health promotion, epidemiologic studies, and hazard consultation. Provides treatment of injuries and communication of the return-to-work status to the client industry. Services may expand to the full range of occupational and environmental health services. This position requires a licensed Medical Doctor in internal medicine with specialized training in occupational medicine. May serve as a consultant to industry.

Nuclear Medicine Physician

Uses radioactive materials to diagnose and treat disease.: Nuclear medicine differs from radiography in that studies the physiologic and metabolic processes of the body. Performs diagnostic studies of blood and urine, including radioimmunoassay, volume and dilution studies. Interviews and examines patients and records supplementary data. Interprets images and data and collaborates with medical and/or dental staff regarding the diagnoses of cases. Monitors quality control of radionuclide preparation, administration and disposition to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Provides instruction to Nuclear Medicine Technologists regarding desired dosages, techniques, positions and projections. Serves as a consultant in the diagnostic and therapeutic use of radioactive pharmaceuticals. This position requires a Medical Doctor with completion of a residency program in nuclear medicine. May participate in the delivery of graduate medical education in nuclear medicine.

Orthopedic Sports Medicine Physician

Specializes in the non-operative medical treatment of musculoskeletal sports conditions but, as an Orthopedist, also provides operative treatment of these conditions.: Promotes lifelong fitness and wellness and encourages prevention of illness and injury. Provides care for patients with musculoskeletal and muscular problems. Examines patient to identify prognosis and plan of treatment. Verifies medical necessity of surgery, estimates possible risk to patient, and determines best operational procedure. Utilizes surgical, medical and physical methodologies to treat bone, muscle, and joint problems. Performs surgery, such as arthroscopy or joint replacement, to correct deformities, repair injuries, and improve function in patient. Reviews reports of patient's general physical condition, reactions to medications, and medical history. Examines instruments, equipment and surgical setup to ensure that antiseptic and aseptic methods have been followed. Performs operations, using variety of surgical instruments and employing established surgical techniques appropriate for specific procedures. This position requires a licensed Medical Doctor with completion of an orthopedic residency and completion of a one year fellowship in a sub-specialty to focus on sports medicine.

Nuclear Medicine Supervisor

Supervises and coordinates the work of Nuclear Medicine Technologists engaged in performing radiologic procedures with radioisotopes. Plans and schedules work for the department, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space, and facilities for performance of duties. Typically requires a degree in health sciences with five years of experience in nuclear medicine. Registration with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Board and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is usually also required. : Supervises and coordinates the work of Nuclear Medicine Technologists engaged in performing radiologic procedures with radioisotopes. Supervises, coordinates, and participates in technical activities to include in vivo and in vitro studies, the calculation of results, and the maintenance, review, and application of computer programs. Plans and schedules work for the department, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space, and facilities for performance of duties. Monitors the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals. Develops and implements quality assurance programs relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment. Develops, recommends, and implements new procedures and techniques to improve patient care. Assists in the technological development of research programs. Provides for proper nursing care for patients in all areas of the laboratory. Maintains liaison with physicians, research personnel, and staff to resolve problems and to provide advice concerning nuclear medicine procedures, techniques, and equipment. Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates outcomes of the department's procedures. Works closely with the Staff Physician to ensure that technological services are provided in an efficient and effective manner. Ensures that radioisotopes are available to meet departmental needs. Prepares and manages the departmental budget. Hires, develops, and motivates a qualified nuclear medical staff. May provide instruction to nuclear medicine technology students.
