Technical Publications Manager

Manages and coordinates activities of workers engaged in preparation and layout of a technical publication and ensures the quality and timely delivery of required material. Studies materials to determine most effective form of presentation and number and type of illustrations required, in accordance with specifications and accepted standards of composition, limitations of equipment, and available funds. Activities include, but are not limited to, various media types, such as desktop publishing, documentation manuals and software, electronic publishing, illustrations, marketing materials and activities, repair guides and manuals, sales materials, software presentations, translations, users manuals, and related materials. Supervisory levels may report to this position. : Coordinates technical liaison services between management, production department, sales department, and customers with newly developed techniques or practices in processing company products, and to inform customers of new types, specifications, and end-uses of products. Confers with production department managers to assist in specific classification of products from quality assurance position, report on new product or process technology of competitors, and to discuss new specifications required by customers. May direct investigation of customer complaints regarding quality, tolerances, specifications, and delivered condition of products. Records, analyzes, and informs concerned personnel of production quality assurance, and sales departments of status and disposition of customer complaints and claims. Negotiates settlement of claims for which company is responsible, within limits prescribed by management. May survey potential markets to increase sales.

Prepares reports on progress and recommends the addition, expansion, or discontinuance of projects. Assists in preparing department budget and schedules, and controls research expenditures within approved limitations. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Technical Writers Supervisor

Prepares mockup for use by other workers in preparing pages. Marks or edits copy to incorporate printing instructions and editorial changes. Routes artwork to correction and reproduction. Routes editorial material for production. Reviews finished material for format, accuracy, and general appearance. Submits proofs for final review and routes corrected copy for printing or production. Plans technical drawings to supplement copy.

User Support Analyst Supervisor

Supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in interpreting problems, providing assistance, problem-solving support, and advising computer user related to hardware, software, and systems. Assists User Support Analyst in solving non-routine software, hardware, and procedure problems. Typically requires a four-year college degree in field of specialty. Typically reports to manager level in the organization.: Talks with staff, computer users, supervisors, and managers to determine requirements for new or modified software and hardware. Writes recommendations for management review. Coordinates installation of hardware and software, and implementation of procedure changes. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress reports, etc., in order to inform management of current status or work activities.
