Manages and coordinates activities of security staff engaged in protection of individuals, homes, and business, commercial, and industrial organizations, and investigates various crimes against organization or client. Develops, implements, and administers programs to protect organization's, employee's, or client's property from theft, sabotage, violence, or other situations that endanger the well being of client, employees, or organization facilities. Develops, implements, and administers methods and procedures for monitoring work activities of staff in order to inform management of current status or work activities. Typically reports to Director of Security and may manage staff of Security Supervisors, Security Guards, and Clerks or Aides.: Inspects premises to determine security needs. Studies physical conditions, observes activities, and confers with staff of organization or client to obtain data regarding internal operations. Manages the installation and operation of electronic security systems, such as closed circuit surveillance, entry controls, burglar alarms, ultrasonic motion detectors, electric eyes, and outdoor perimeter and microwave alarms. Analyzes data compiled from security equipment, investigations, interviews, and staff reports. Reviews personnel records of employees or client staff and conducts background investigation of selected members to obtain personal histories, character references, and financial status. Conducts or manages surveillance of suspects and premises to apprehend culprits. Notifies client and/or upper management of security weaknesses, and develops and implements procedures for handling, storing, safekeeping, and destroying classified materials. Ensures comprehensive training of staff and employee compliance to organization's policies and practices. Coordinates communication and cooperates with law enforcement when necessary. Reports criminal information to authorities and testifies in court. Monitors and analyzes costs and prepares department budget. May plan and review client travel itinerary, mode of transportation, and accommodations. May travel with client and direct security operations.

Contacts individuals and groups having similar interests in order to encourage them also to contact legislators and present views. Prepares news releases and informational pamphlets and conducts news conferences in order to state client's views and to inform public of features of proposed legislation considered desirable or undesirable. Plans and coordinates meetings between members and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals and allow officials to respond to membership concerns. May contact regulatory agencies and testify at public hearings to enlist support for client's interests. May be legally required to register with governmental authorities as lobbyist and to submit reports of regulated expenditures incurred during lobbying activities. May attend and represent local organization at state and national association meetings. May instruct individuals or organization members in lobbying techniques.

Reviews and analyzes economic data in order to prepare reports detailing results of investigation, and to stay abreast of economic changes. Formulates recommendations, policies, or plans to aid in market interpretation or solution of economic problems, such as recommending changes in methods of agricultural financing, domestic, and international monetary policies, or policies that regulate investment and transfer of capital. May supervise and assign work to staff. May testify at regulatory or legislative hearings to present recommendations.
Designs computer information systems to provide management or clients with specific data. Designs and develops methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying information for input and retrieval to and from computer. Utilizes knowledge of electronic data processing principles, system and computer capabilities, mathematics, symbolic language, and optical or pattern recognition principles. : Develops alternate designs to resolve problems in input, storage, and retrieval of information. May specialize in specific field of information science, such as scientific or engineering research, or in specific discipline, such as business, medicine, education, aerospace, or library science.
Observes and reports activities at client's site assigned by security contract service. Provides security and safety for client's property and personnel. Controls access to site by ensuring proper identification of employees or visitors and prepares security logs. Assists visitors with legitimate need to gain entry to facility. Monitors entrances and exits to facility, either at guard station, or by closed-circuit television, and acts to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry. Makes periodic walking tours of buildings and grounds to check doors, windows, and other entries to ensure they are properly secured. Reports any observed irregularities, such as presence of unauthorized people, fire hazards, leaking pipes, unsecured entries, and faulty equipment.: Preserves order and may act to enforce regulations and directives for the site pertaining to personnel, visitors and premises. Monitors operations to ensure compliance with all government regulations. Coordinates implementation of vendor-issued security software updates. Enters commands into computer in attempt to circumvent new security measures to test system. Reviews employee violations of computer security procedures recorded by computer and reports violations to user department managers or talks with employee to ensure that violation is not repeated. Develops and writes computer security department policies and procedures. May assign computer access passwords to employees. May develop, coordinate implementation of, and test plan to continue establishment data processing activities at off-site location in case of emergency, such as fire, at main site.
Specializes in a more complex aspect of the Benefit Clerk duties. Requires more in-depth knowledge of benefit programs, company policies, and administrative procedures than the Benefit Clerk. This is a paraprofessional job and excludes jobs whose responsibilities typically require a four-year college degree.: Researches, analyzes, and integrates data to provide information on benefits and group insurance programs and utilization. Duties may involve identifying needs for modification or changes in program design and administrative procedures. Records employee enrollment in benefits. Explains and interprets more complex aspects of company insurance programs to employees and dependents. Answers more complex questions regarding benefits, such as pension and retirement plan, and group insurance, such as life, hospitalization, and workers' compensation. Fills out application forms or verifies information on forms submitted by employees. Mails applications to insurance company. Files records of claims and fills out cancellation forms when employees leave company service. May make employee presentations on benefit programs. May correspond with or telephone physicians, hospitals, and employees regarding claims. May perform complex aspects of benefit accounting and reconciliation.
