Retail Supervisor

Supervises, coordinates, and participates in activities of salespeople, cashiers, stock clerks, and other entry-level employees who work in retail establishment. Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties. Assists manager in store daily operations; in small establishments, may manage the entire sales floor during their shift; in large stores, may manage a single department such as shoes or housewares.: Ensures that store or department is kept clean and that employees are neat, well-groomed, and competent. Handles customer complaints and questions. Organizes or oversees the organization of merchandise on store or department shelves, reviews the inventory to make sure everything is in stock, and provides input for establishing the sales goals for store or department. Ensures compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices. Recruits, hires, trains, and motivates qualified staff, evaluates employee performance, and recommends or initiates promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. May be involved with bookkeeping and/or purchasing responsibilities. May have specialized and extensive knowledge for specialty store or department merchandise, i.e., a supervisor employed in a kitchen supply store should be knowledgeable about cooking.

Loss Prevention Retail Manager

Manages all aspects of organization's loss prevention activities, such as asset protection, store safety, training, and oversight of security equipment. Implements and coordinates security and theft prevention programs designed to ensure the protection of company assets and increase profitability. : Reviews reported loss events such as shoplifting, robbery or burglary, destruction or sabotage of company property, employee theft or fraud, or any other internal or external event resulting in loss of company assets. Modifies loss prevention plan to protect against repeat occurrences of loss events. Selects and trains loss prevention personnel, with emphasis on professionalism and safety. Coordinates investigations of loss events, and works with local law enforcement and other prosecuting agencies. Maintains records and reports of loss events, and monitors loss prevention department's contribution to total store shortage reduction. Prepares training materials and may provide training during new employee orientation.

Retail Area Manager

Manages operations of retail stores in assigned geographic area. Supervises Store Managers. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring store activities, such as sales, expenditures, progress reports, etc., in order to inform management of current status of store activities. The next organization level above the Area Manager is typically a District or Zone Manager. Retail Store Manager (Revenue)

Manages daily operations of a retail store engaged in selling specific lines of merchandise, such as groceries, meat, liquor, apparel, jewelry, or furniture; related lines of merchandise, such as radios, televisions, and household appliances; or general lines of merchandise. Formulates pricing policies to ensure profitability of store operations. Coordinates sales promotion activities and prepares or supervises preparation of merchandise displays and advertising copy. Performs and/or supervises employees engaged in taking of and controlling inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records, or preparing daily records of transactions. Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties. Typically the next organization level is an Area Manager and supervisors report to this position. Ensures compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices. Typically accountable for controllable expenses, cash management, merchandising, and loss prevention. May hire and train store personnel and maintain employee relations.

Zone/District Retail Manager

Manages operations of retail stores in assigned district or zone. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring area and store activities, such as sales, expenditures, progress reports, etc., in order to inform management of current status of store activities. Typically this job oversees Area Managers; the next level in the organization above this job is a Regional Manager. NOTE--ERI's findings based on sales volume.: Interprets company policy to Area Managers and Store Managers. Analyzes area budgets to identify needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budgets funds. Formulates pricing policies on merchandise according to requirements for profitability of store operations. Regional Sales Manager Retail

Oversees operations of retail stores in assigned region. Manages the strategic direction of stores within the assigned region, within broad company objectives. Develops and implements short- and long-term marketing plans for sales growth. Typically this job oversees Zone or District Managers; the next level in the organization above this job is typically a Division Vice President or General Manager.
