Plans, directs, and monitors operations, functions, and resources of the Respiratory Therapy Department to assure optimal and safe patient care in the delivery of respiratory care services. Directs and evaluates diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures. Respiratory Therapy Technician

Assists personnel in the Respiratory Therapy Department. Assists in providing respiratory therapy as directed by Respiratory Therapist and prescribed by physician.: Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes equipment used in administration of respiratory therapy. Examines equipment to detect worn tubes, loose connections, or other indications of disrepair, and notifies supervisor of need for maintenance. Starts equipment and observes gauges measuring pressure, rate of flow, and continuity to test equipment, and notifies supervisor of malfunctions. Assists in preparation of inventory records. Delivers oxygen tanks and other equipment and supplies to specified hospital locations.

Respiratory Therapy Manager

Manages and oversees activities of and provides direction to employees engaged in inhalant therapy involving the administration of aerosolized drugs and medical gases. Typically reports to director level and may have first level supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller organizations, the manager may be the first level supervisor over subordinate staff.: Directs and coordinates delivery program of a school or hospital in the treatment of patients. Instructs hospital personnel in universal and specific control procedures. Recommends measures to improve work methods, performance, and quality of service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency. Maintains quality control and training. Uses equipment such as ventilators to support respiration and maintain patient’s oxygen supply. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Performs chest physiotherapy on patient to remove mucus from their lungs and make it easier for them to breathe and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. This position is not a Registered Respiratory Therapist.: Coordinates all emergency responses and develops clinical care protocols. Evaluates patient care plans and performs assessment of endotracheal tube placement. Provides orientation, education, and training as needed to Respiratory Services staff. Reviews performance of all staff members and develops performance plans and professional goals. Instructs and supervises patient and therapeutic assessments to assure optimal medical decisions. Monitors adherence to policy, procedures, and practice guidelines. Assists with departmental clinical research projects. Maintains appropriate supply inventory. Provides input into applicant hiring and termination decisions. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
