Plans, develops, directs, and oversees all planning and implementation of practices, policies, programs, procedures, and personnel activities of an organization's engineering efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design, modify, and improve company products and/or services; design testing and maintenance of production processes, machinery, and/or equipment; design and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and physical layout; reliability improvements; cost engineering; construction and engineering project management; and other related activities. Directs engineering management in formulating plans, designs, cost estimates, and specifications. Typically reports to Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer and directly supervises Engineering Director(s).: Reviews engineering designs in light of the organization's strategic goals and return on investment. Provides technical support and assistance to other operating units of the organization. Conducts special investigations and studies to evaluate efficiency of engineering programs. Confers with manufacturing and research departments to ensure product design, development, and modification are in conformance with organization's goals and objectives. Establishes budget controls. Reviews, approves, and coordinates product and process changes to maintain or improve cost/benefit ratio. Assesses working conditions to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.
Manages a team of Industrial Engineers to design, improve, and install integrated systems of humans, processes, materials, and equipment. Specifies, predicts, and evaluates the results obtained from such systems. Drives continuous process improvements to ensure all business requirements are met or exceeded.: Leads the Industrial Engineering team and broader cross-functional team to drive overall process design and improvement and solve complex technical, operational, and system integration problems. Defines and manages all elements of plant operating system, including workflows, equipment capacity, staffing levels and methods, IT systems requirements, and technology applications. Applies and trains others in the use of lean operations concepts to optimize the overall system. Designs facilities, including layout of buildings, machines, and equipment, material handling equipment, and storage facilities. Engages and manages various outside contractors, vendors, suppliers, etc. Performs economic justifications on any new capital expenditure projects. Creates and maintains the capital plan. Ensures that plant bottlenecks are understood and are at sufficient capacity to achieve business requirements. Drives process improvement teams to improve business performance.
Facilitates improvements in operating performance and competitive positioning in a health care environment through fundamental rethinking and redesign of core processes. Serves as primary link to the process improvement teams and natural working groups and implementation teams. Enables key stakeholders' participation and acceptance of change efforts. Directs a variety of management engineering projects and programs to provide management with statistical data in areas including information flow, cost containment, work standards, staffing levels, and productivity. Recommends procedure level standards for time and materials to be used by the Cost and Financial Management Systems staff and Hospital Departmental Managers.: Develops and implements studies of hospital functions and systems to include data collections and flow-charting. Prepares narrative and graphic displays of the studies' findings. Develops and directs varied feasibility studies related to the implementation of new ancillary procedures, clinic studies, and hospital processes from a cost and effectiveness standpoint. Develops and initiates a plan to educate departments on various topics related to productivity management and improvement strategies. Provides assistance to the Internal Audit Department in operational review of hospital departments. Researches and analyzes trends. Coordinates the preparation of reports setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Determines fiscal requirements and prepares budgetary recommendations. Directs various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, training, promotion, transfer, and schedules.
Directs, oversees, and exercises functional authority for operation, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of all product or process-related activities of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility. Directs engineering department in formulating designs, cost estimates, and specifications through application of professionally accepted engineering techniques, practices, and procedures. Apportions projects among engineering managers/departments according to specialized training and project requirements. Directs the formulation and implementation of overall objectives, policies, plans, and programs.: Ensures that engineering work conforms to high technical and organizational standards and meets or exceeds all requirements. Approves process specification and design standards. Reviews engineering designs for neatness and accuracy. Oversees preparation and control of department budget. Oversees compilation of cost control and statistical data. Oversees computing of engineering operating budgets, compiling reports, and conducting special investigations and studies to evaluate efficiency of engineering programs. Prepares interim and completion project reports.
Provides clinical and technical support for specialized medical equipment or areas that provide specialized care to patients. Develops, administers, and ensures compliance with quality assurance measures that monitor the consistency and quality of services provided to specialized medical equipment. Monitors and enforces accreditation standards for the environment of care. : Trains Biomedical Engineering Technicians and equipment operators on the proper operation and maintenance requirements associated with specialized medical equipment. Develops and assures adherence to Clinical Engineering practices and general departmental policies. Recommends equipment purchases and standardization to supervisor based upon history and experience with use of equipment. Assures accurate and efficient maintenance of departmental records and reports.
Coordinates and supervises activities of biomedical equipment technicians engaged in maintenance, repair, and calibration of biomedical equipment. Utilizes knowledge of computer, graphics, electrical, mechanical, chemical, or other engineering principles and other related technologies. Is required to be adept in activities of employees supervised.: Analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budgets funds. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces safety regulations. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.
Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation used in health care delivery field. Companies prefer at least a two-year degree in electronic technology with college courses in science, engineering, mathematics, plus courses in field of specialty; however, some companies may accept equivalent education and experience combined.: Inspects and installs medical and related technical equipment in medical and research facilities for use by physicians, nurses, scientists, or engineers involved in researching, monitoring, diagnosing, and treating physical ailments or dysfunctions. Services various equipment and apparatus, such as patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood-gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood-pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment, in-house television systems, patient-care computers, and other related technical paraphernalia. Repairs, calibrates, and maintains equipment, using hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and knowledge of manufacturers' manuals, troubleshooting techniques, and preventive maintenance schedules. Safety-tests medical equipment and health care facility's structural environment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards. Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely, utilizing knowledge of electronics, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and physics. May demonstrate and explain correct operation of equipment to medical personnel. May modify or develop instruments or devices, under supervision of medical or engineering staff. May work as salesperson or service technician for equipment manufacturers or their sales representatives.
Designs and develops Radio Frequency (RF) circuits, devices, hardware, and/or embedded software in communications systems. Manages technical projects to ensure adherence to target performance, cost, and schedules. Oversees product development from initial concept through design, test, delivery, and installation.: Converts specifications into designs, and interfaces with other design groups to ensure system conformance to requirements. Generates and reviews design documentation. Tests, documents, and troubleshoots RF assemblies. Introduces designs to manufacturing. Trains others in the standards and design of RF circuits.
Prepares cost estimates for construction projects, manufacturing of engineering products, or other projects or services requested to aid management in bidding on or determining price of product or service. Determines type of materials or equipment requirements, utilizing knowledge of products to be manufactured, services to be performed, or type of structure to be built, using blueprints and specifications. This position is distinguished from other cost estimator positions as the levels of responsibilities and complexity of work typically requires a degree in engineering.: Itemizes tools, fixtures, or equipment to be manufactured by company or purchased from outside sources. Computes cost estimates for materials, purchased equipment, subcontracted work, production activities and requirements, and labor.
