Evaluator Special Needs

Assesses type and degree of disability of special needs children to aid in determining special programs and services required to meet educational needs. Reviews referrals of children having or suspected of having learning disabilities, mental retardation, behavioral disorders, or physical disabilities to determine evaluation procedure. Confers with school or other personnel and scrutinizes records to obtain additional information on nature and severity of disability. May specialize in evaluating student readiness to transfer from special classes to regular classroom and in providing supportive services to regular classroom teacher.

Inspector Mine

Inspects underground or open-pit mines to ascertain compliance with contractual agreements and with safety and health laws. Inspects for rotted or incorrectly placed timbers, dangerously placed or defective electrical and mechanical equipment, improperly stored explosives, and other hazardous conditions. Tests air quality to detect toxic or explosive gas or dust, using portable gas-analysis equipment, in order to control health hazards and to reduce injuries and fatalities. Observes mine activities to detect violations of Federal and State safety and health standards. : Inspects mine workings to verify compliance with contractual agreements concerning production rates or mining within specified limits. May instruct mine workers in safety and first aid procedures.

Valve Inspector

Rebuilds safety and flow valves used on compressed and liquefied gas cylinders, drums, or railway cars: disassembles valve, using bench vise and handtools. Inspects components for surface flaws, and defects in stem and threads. Reams valve seats with hand reamer and dresses threads with tap and die. Immerses parts in cleaning solution and reassembles valve. Dips valve in molten lead, using tongs, to prevent leakage. Attaches valve and fusible plug to high-pressure gasline, submerges it in water, and observes for bubbles to test valve and plug for leaks. Melts out defective plugs, scrapes hole clean, and pours in new metal. Records number of valves tested and test results. May attach gauge and open air valve to test filled cylinders for pressure. May brush or spray chemical solution around valves to test filled cylinders for leaks. May fill cylinders cylinder filler.

Inspector Airplane

Examines airframe, engines, and operating equipment to ensure that repairs are made according to specifications, and certifies airworthiness of aircraft. : Tests tightness of airframe connections with hand tools and employs flashlight and mirror to inspect fit of parts. Signals to start engine and manipulate aircraft controls. Collects data, such as engine revolutions per minute and fuel and oil pressures, to evaluate engine performance, using tachometer and pressure gauges. Examines assembly, installation, and adjustment of ailerons and rudders to ensure that workmanship and materials conform with Civil Air Regulations, company specifications, and manual procedures. Determines accuracy of installation of components in power plant and hydraulic system with protractor, micrometer, calipers, and gauge to ensure that specified tolerances are met. Signs inspection tag to approve unit, or records reasons for rejecting unit. Logs inspections performed on aircraft. Must hold Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic's License and Inspection Authorization, issued by Federal Aviation Administration. May prepare dismantling schedules for airplanes to be overhauled. May service, repair, and replace airframe components, engines, and operating equipment.

Inspector Safety

Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions in industrial or other setting to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices. Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, helmets, goggles, respirators, and clothing. Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies. Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter. This is a paraprofessional level and excludes Bachelor of Science degrees in engineering.: Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action. Compiles and submits required OSHA accident reports. Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program. May demonstrate use of safety equipment.

CMM Inspector

Performs mechanical inspection of materials and finished machined parts and machined castings throughout the machining process from first piece to final inspection. Operates a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) to measure the physical geometrical characteristics of a part, including dimensional measurement, profile measurement, angularity or orientation measurement, depth mapping, digitizing or imaging, and shaft measurement.: Assures all pieces are within specified geometric tolerances required and are in compliance with engineered drawings and company specifications, testing parts against the design intent. Communicates with Quality Control, Manufacturing, and Engineering in verbal and written form, and documents inspection results in required format. Verifies inspection results on nonconforming products.

Inspector Final

Performs final inspection on products and determines acceptability, based on adherence to specifications and on acquired job knowledge of acceptable standards.: Measures thickness of finished materials, using dial micrometer. Marks defects with chalk and sets rejects aside for disposal by classifier.

Inspector Instrument

Inspects measuring, indicating, and controlling instruments, such as speedometers, sequence timers, and thermostats, and component parts, for conformance to specifications.: Examines components and housings for specified characteristics, such as smoothness and centering of holes, or defects, such as scratches and chips. Measures instrument parts to verify conformance to blueprint specifications, using measuring devices, such as ruler, thread gauge, micrometer, and dial indicator. May use microscope to inspect bearings or other component parts. May test functional performance of instrument, using test equipment. May write inspection reports concerning defective parts and assemblies.
