Inspects work in progress and completed to ensure conformance to specifications. Keeps and monitors records of work in process. May initiate or authorize employee hire, promotion, discharge, or transfer. Performs related work as required.

Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. Develops sketches, specifications, samples, written analyses, and designs of proposed packaging. Develops prototype packaging using appropriate materials such as folding carton, plastic, film or foil, shrink wrap, and appropriate corrugated or other form of shipping container. Plans and directs activities concerned with design and development of packaging containers for attractive and safe shipping of finished products under varying conditions, such as shock, vibration, compression, temperature, environment, and methods of transportation, as well as protection from pilferage. Typically requires a four-year college degree in the field of engineering; however, some companies may accept equivalent education and experience combined. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special-handling and safety requirements, and type of materials required for container. Consults with establishment's purchasing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging. Develops or directs development of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval. May confer with customers or sales representatives to draw up contracts. May advise employer or customers on efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and utilization of sealing and fastening devices.

Packaging/Filling Operator

Tends machine that performs one or more packaging functions, such as filling, marking, labeling, tying, packing, or wrapping containers.: Starts machine and observes operation to detect malfunctions of machine. Stops machine and reports malfunction to supervisor. Makes minor adjustments or repairs, such as opening valves, changing forming and cutting dies, setting guides, or clearing away damaged products of containers. Inspects filled container to ensure that product is packaged according to specifications.

Packaging/Filling Setup

Prepares packaging equipment: adjusts settings. Repairs minor problems. Addresses needs of operator. May operate the equipment.
