Bioinformatics Programmer Analyst

Organizes and directs staff in computing applications in a medical facility. Researches and studies areas in the medical field including sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression, protein-protein interactions, and the modeling of evolution. Serves as an analytical assistant for multiple investigators and projects involving genetic association studies of cancer and related outcomes. Manages large genetic data files and conducts statistical analyses using off-the-shelf and custom tools. Implements and runs analysis scripts under supervision of senior consultants, faculty statisticians, project bioinformaticians, and other investigators.: Uses computing resources to solve problems on scales of magnitude far too great for human discernment. Develops or uses techniques, including applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, chemistry, and biochemistry, to extract useful information from data produced by high-throughput biological techniques, such as genome sequencing, and solve biological problems, usually on the molecular level. Develops and designs an interface for a medical facility, including but not limited to monitoring project status, identifying and resolving problems which may impact the project results, maintaining software and hardware, working with departmental leadership on developing and implementing policies, and consulting with departmental leadership regarding application alternatives, security, software usage, capacity planning, training, recovery, and backup procedures. Creates statistical software tools for analyzing large genomic data, and assists with overall software maintenance and development. Develops, maintains, and enhances the organization's software architecture. Interacts with collaborators at a medical research laboratory. Adds statistical/bioinformatics tools to existing software. Works with users to resolve errors and bugs in current released versions.

EDI Programmer Analyst

Provides analysis and support to internal and external customers relative to electronic exchange of data including enrollment, claims, payments, and clearinghouse activities. Typically requires an associate's degree in computer science, database programming skills, and previous experience in EDI programming.: Responds to inquiries from providers and internal departments. Monitors, activates, and operates EDI web and electronic claims processes, including data processing, technical support, systems operation, and documentation. Retrieves and analyzes vendor claims to ensure proper processing and payment. Develops and maintains documentation on completed projects. Facilitates, implements, and supports EDI transaction and code sets to meet HIPAA compliance, and supports other EDI relationships. Maintains internal programs for simplified user interface with systems. Assists in the documentation, development and maintenance of EDI procedure manuals, processing manuals, and internally created program documents. Provides coordination with regulatory agencies and outside vendors for proper claim retrieval, processing, and reporting. Executes, maintains, and monitors the daily process for state reporting purposes and claim reports to outside vendors. Monitors and maintains EDI system logs to correct any operational errors. Trains users on help functions of internally created programs and with commercially bought programs. May help customers with modem set-up, connection protocols, and related issues.
