Evaluate materials and develop machinery and processes to manufacture materials for use in products that must meet specialized design and performance specifications. Develop new uses for known materials. Include those working with composite materials or specializing in one type of material, such as graphite, metal and metal alloys, ceramics and glass, plastics and polymers, and naturally occurring materials. Include metallurgists and metallurgical engineers, ceramic engineers, and welding engineers.

Process Technician Refinery

Control the operation of petroleum refining or processing units. May specialize in controlling manifold and pumping systems, gauging or testing oil in storage tanks, or regulating the flow of oil into pipelines.

Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for purposes, such as research and development of new products or processes, quality control, maintenance of environmental standards, and other work involving experimental, theoretical, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.

Sterile Processing Technician

Prepares, disinfects, tests, assembles, sterilizes, packages, and distributes a variety of supplies, instruments, and equipment to be used in patient care, often operating complicated disinfection and sterilization equipment.: Processes incoming supplies and equipment. Collects used equipment and supplies. Cleans, decontaminates, sterilizes, and assembles instruments and equipment, ensuring good working order. Operates steam and gas sterilizers and autoclaves. Labels processed equipment. Prepares and issues sterile equipment and supplies to patient care units as requested. Monitors and maintains inventory supply. Prepares packs of supplies such as linens, instruments, etc., as needed to maintain the sterilized supply levels of assigned areas. Prepares supplies for all surgery cases as directed. Prepares or assists with recordkeeping as needed. Conforms to rules of safety and infection control while performing these tasks and maintains compliance with acceptable hospital and regulatory agency standards of quality.

Photo Processing Technician

Receives orders for photo processing, operates photo lab equipment to process photos, and collects payment from customers. Answers customer's questions regarding prices and services. May sell photo supplies, such as cameras, film, batteries, and flash attachments.: Receives film or storage media to be processed from customer and enters identification data and printing instructions on service log and customer order envelope. Processes photos according to customer order. Files finished product according to customer's name. Locates finished order for customer. Totals charges, using cash register, collects payment, and returns prints and storage media or processed film to customer.

Test Technician Semiconductor Processing Equipment

Operates machines and equipment used in production of semiconductor wafers, such as alignment equipment, automatic developer, and diffusion furnaces, and tests processed wafers to evaluate performance of machines and equipment: operates machines and equipment to process test wafer. Inspects and measures test wafer, using electronic measuring equipment and microscope, to determine that machines and equipment are processing wafers according to company specifications. Records test results in logbooks. Discusses production problems with workers. Analyzes test results, using engineering specifications and calculator, and writes report on equipment repair or re-calibration recommendations and on operator procedure violations.
