Pharmacy Vice President

Provides executive leadership for operations, growth, and financial performance of pharmacy operations.: Responsible for the planning, supervision and successful execution of all activities related to the pharmacy's operations to ensure accuracy in the dispensing of products and information. Develops and implements operational efficiencies throughout the pharmacy. This position is responsible for all pharmacy practice and regulatory issues of the pharmacy to include compliance with regulatory issues, corporate policies, standards and operating procedures. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates outcomes of the pharmacy department’s strategic plans. Performs regular data analysis of pharmacy data and pharmaceutical cost reports to identify variances and root causes so that areas of focus may be identified and resources may be appropriately deployed. Prepares and manages the departmental budget. Hires, develops and motivates a qualified pharmacy department staff. May be responsible for sales and marketing of pharmacy services. This position typically requires a Bachelor’s in Pharmacy, a Pharm.D., a Pharmacist license, six years of pharmacy experience, and strong clinical decision-making skills.

Pharmacy Purchasing Agent-Buyer

Procures supplies, materials, and pharmaceuticals for the pharmacy. Maintains interface with vendors to ensure the procurement of high quality merchandise, expedient delivery, and dependable service at optimum price. Negotiates contractual arrangements between the organization and selected vendors committing funds up to authorized limits. Typically requires licensure as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with a minimum of two years of experience.: Places orders and handles routine purchase orders. Verifies order fulfillment and checks invoices. Analyzes markets to determine vendor sources and product availability. Remains cognizant of market fluctuations affecting prices. Interviews and confers with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule. Maintains procurement history and inventory records. Populates inventory records for use in pharmacy and updates prices. Prepares purchase orders or bid requests. Maintains procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories. Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and identify an appropriate corrective action. May approve invoices for payment. May automate invoicing and purchasing procedures. May transfer drugs between pharmacies

Pharmacist

Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Enters data, such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory. May assay medications to determine identity, purity, and strength. May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy, or teach in college of pharmacy. May work in hospital pharmacy.

Nuclear Pharmacist

Dispenses and compounds prescribed radioactive materials for use in nuclear medicine procedures, according to professional standards and state and federal regulatory requirements.: Obtains the desired radioactive material, either from a manufacturer, or from an in house generator system. Dispenses radioactive materials to a hospital, specialty clinic, or other nuclear medicine departments where the radiopharmaceutical will be administered to the patient. Provides drug information to other health professionals to aid the nuclear medicine staff in the selection of products and to assist in the interpretation of unusual studies. Uses procedures that minimize radiation exposure to themselves and to others. Reviews and monitors medication therapy and orders written by appropriate caregivers for safety and effectiveness considering specific patient conditions and health status. Maintains appropriate records of dispensing and oversees and maintains the systems that charge or credit for medications and medication treatments. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Ensures that proper documentation is completed for all medications. Maintains all equipment and systems used in the preparation, oversight and dispensing of medications. Ensures that appropriate medications are available, ordered, prepared, stored and maintained. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, certification or completion of an accredited clinical residency program, a current license, and training on the various radiopharmaceuticals that are used as well as training on the safe handling of radioactive materials. This position may be found in various work settings to include hospital, medical clinic, retail pharmacy, or mail order pharmacy.

Clinical Pharmacist

Responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services support for formulary development and maintenance, pull-through development and drug information services.: This position requires completion of Pharmacy D. degree or BS degree in pharmacy and clinical training and experience. Writes, coordinates and presents evaluations of drugs. Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed. Provides clinical support for updating the formulary’s clinical guideline sections. Creates formulary groupings and new charts and graphs for the clinical and drug listing sections. Prepares, reviews and revises physician reference sheets. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Performs literature searches and analyzes data to answer questions surrounding drug therapy. Provides clinical material for newsletter, including formulary notification items. Presents and coordinates educational programs. Ensures that pharmacotherapy treatment recommendations in the disease management program are consistent with formulary initiatives. May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy, or teach in college of pharmacy.

Staff Pharmacist Retail-Satellite

Dispenses and compounds prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and state and federal legal requirements in a retail or satellite pharmacy.: Reviews and monitors medication therapy and orders written by appropriate caregivers for safety and effectiveness considering specific patient conditions and health status. Prepares labels and dispenses medications for patients in accordance with physicians' prescriptions and in compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations pertaining to the dispensing of drugs and narcotics and the maintenance of required records. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes, such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Maintains appropriate records of dispensing and oversees and maintains the systems that charge or credit for medications and medication treatments. Supervises pharmacy workers who assist in mixing, packaging, labeling and dispensing pharmaceuticals. Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Provides drug information and educates caregivers and patients regarding medications and their proper use and monitoring. Monitors all aspects of the medication process, collects data and presents reports and recommendations regarding issues with medication systems. Ensures that proper documentation is completed for all medications, with particular attention on controlled substances. Maintains all equipment and systems used in the preparation, oversight and dispensing of medications. Ensures that appropriate medications are available, ordered, prepared, stored and maintained. This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and certification or completion of an accredited clinical residency program. A current license is also required. May analyze medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.

Medical Pharmacist
