Diagnostic Imaging Administrative Director

Provides leadership in administration, technical direction, and long range planning for the Diagnostic Imaging Department and other imaging services. This is the top non-physician administrative position within diagnostic imaging.: Coordinates and directs the operational, financial and staffing activities of a group of imaging departments and services such as Radiology, Special Procedures, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Angiography and routine diagnostics. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates outcomes of the department’s strategic plans. Develops strategic initiatives and transforms initiatives into action plans. Performs regular data analysis of internal medical cost reports to identify variances so that areas of focus may be identified and resources may be appropriately deployed. Works closely with the Radiologist (M.D.) to ensure that diagnostic imaging services are provided in an efficient and effective manner. Prepares and manages the departmental budget. Hires, develops and motivates a qualified diagnostic imaging department staff. Develops policies and procedures, directs technicians and non-technical staff, and ensures adequate staffing for the department. This position requires certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with a minimum of five years of management experience in diagnostic imaging.

Diagnostic Imaging Supervisor

Supervises all functions of the Radiology Department and maintains high standards of technical competence in all of general radiology. Maintains efficient work flow and adaptability in accommodating emergency and add-on exams. : Assumes responsibility for all phases of imaging diagnostic procedural support, accreditation, and contract compliance under supervision of CMO and Hospital Administrator. Monitors quality of the Imaging Technologist work, interacts with physicians and consultant radiologists, and serves as a technical resource on diversity of imaging procedures. Assists in performing radiographic and ultrasound procedures. Collaborates with Physicians and Hospital Administrator to negotiate and coordinate imaging services, analyzing work requirements and plans both for short and long-range methods.

Ultrasound Technologist

Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing appropriate ultrasonic equipment to produce high frequency sound waves which create diagnostic images of the human body for use in diagnosis of disease or organ malfunctions. Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination. Specialized certification and completion of an approved course in medical sonography is typically required.: Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for the test. Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to the nature of the test, depth of field, and other specifications of test. Enters test data and patient information into computer to become part of the test record. Conducts test procedure, moving transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observing sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced. Records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, strip printout, or film, and produces a permanent record of test result. Discusses test results with supervisor or attending physician. Checks all equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper operation.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist

Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes. Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures and to request removal of metal objects that are hazardous to patient and equipment when magnet is activated. Typically requires specialized certification.: Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist. Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination. Enters data, such as patient history, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of magnetic resonance imaging equipment (head or feet first), into computer. Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjust transmitters and receivers into computer. Observes patient through window of control room and on closed circuit TV screen to monitor patient safety and comfort. Views images of areas being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures. Keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images. Medical Magnetic Imaging Technologist

Chief Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist

Coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images (photographs) of patient's body for diagnostic purposes. Typically requires graduation from an accredited program in radiologic technology, current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiology, registration in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and two years of MRI experience. : Provides training and is a technical resource for less experience MRI Technologists on staff. Interviews patient to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures and to request removal of metal objects which are hazardous to patient and equipment when magnet is activated. Positions patient on examining table and places specified coil (receiver) such as head coil or knee coil, close to area of interest, following protocols requested by Radiologist. Demonstrates use of microphone that allows patient and technologist to communicate during examination.
