Emergency Medical Technician

Administers first-aid treatment to and transports sick or injured patients to medical facility, working as member of emergency medical team. Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatcher and drives specially equipped emergency vehicle to specified location. Monitors communication equipment to maintain contact with dispatcher. Removes or assists in removal of victims from scene of accident or catastrophe. Determines nature and extent of illness or injury, or magnitude of catastrophe, to establish first aid procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance, basing decisions on statements of people involved, examination of victim or victims, and knowledge of emergency medical practice. Administers prescribed first-aid treatment at site of emergency, or in specially equipped vehicle, performing such activities as application of splints, administration of oxygen or intravenous injections, treatment of minor wounds or abrasions, or administration of artificial resuscitation. This position requires certification as an EMT.: Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at treatment facility. Assists in transfer of victims to treatment center. Assists treatment center admitting personnel to obtain and record information related to victims' vital statistics and circumstances of emergency. Maintains vehicles and medical and communication equipment and replenishes first-aid equipment and supplies. May assist in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at scene of catastrophe. May assist professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at medical facility.

Emergency Room Nurse

Provides general nursing care to patients in emergency care unit of hospital, infirmary, or similar health care facility. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatments and examinations of patients. Requires RN license.: Takes temperatures, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient. Administers prescribed medications and treatments. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

Head of Emergency Services

Supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in medical emergency and urgent care operations; responsibilities may include but are not limited to emergency room operations, emergency room nursing services, and off-site emergency or urgent care operations, and transportation including air ambulances. : Supervises employees involved in rescue, transportation, and care of accident or catastrophe victims, and others requiring emergency medical assistance. Arranges for establishment of emergency medical facilities, staffing of facilities by emergency-trained medical and auxiliary personnel, installation of telecommunication network components, and acquisition of emergency vehicles. Maintains records of facilities and personnel, and periodically inspects facilities to ensure capability of meeting emergency needs. Develops, plans, and participates in training programs for ambulance and rescue personnel. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces safety regulations. Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Emergency Room Technician

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician in the Emergency Room, performs basic patient care activities. This position typically requires certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician in the Emergency Room, performs basic patient care activities. Provides Emergency Room technical support for physicians and nurses to optimize patient care. Assists in providing patient care by performing phlebotomy and IV starts, performing EKGs, transporting patients to other departments, and placing patient on cardiac and vital sign monitors. Performs wound care, inserts foley catheters and nasogastric tubes, obtains lab specimens and documents all care provided. Assists the Emergency Physician in suturing simple lacerations after the credentialing process is completed. Assists the physician with physical exams, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic procedures. Applies a variety of orthopedic splints on patients and fits patients for crutches. Cleans equipment and workspace. Stocks supplies and coordinates repair of equipment malfunctions. This position typically requires certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
