Insurance Sales Manager

Manages, plans, leads, organizes, controls, and coordinates the sales activities of an insurance company, agency, or insurance brokerage firm. Hires, trains, and supervises insurance sales staff. Establishes sales goals and plans to assure that each agent contributes to the overall organization objectives. Ensures that all systems, procedures, and insurance company regulations are communicated to and complied with by all personnel in the production department.: Develops and maintains a comprehensive sales training program to assure meeting the agency standards of performance. Conducts periodic reviews for organization employees to assure attainment of goals and proper compensation arrangements. Reviews all activities relating to the public, customers, and organizations to avoid issues involving potential errors and omissions. Confers with company officials to plan and develop methods and procedures to increase sales, lower costs, and obtain greater efficiency. Interprets, implements, and enforces company policies. Prepares and submits activity reports. Develops a sales budget to insure conformance to organization sales goals and objectives. May reconcile earned commissions with commission advances on sales personnel.

Coder Health Care

Compiles and maintains medical records of patients of health care delivery system to document patient condition and treatment. Reviews medical records for completeness and to abstract and code clinical data, such as diseases, operations, procedures, and therapies, using standard classification systems. : Compiles medical care and census data for statistical reports on types of diseases treated, surgery performed, and use of hospital beds, in response to inquiries from law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies. Maintains and utilizes variety of health record indexes and storage and retrieval systems. Operates computer to process, store, and retrieve health information. Assists Medical Records Administrator in special studies or research as needed. May code medical records for reimbursement purposes.

Insurance Underwriter

Reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate individuals and groups for insurance and accepts or rejects applications, following establishment underwriting standards. Examines such documents as application form, inspection report, insurance maps, and medical reports to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property. : Reviews company records to determine amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks, and evaluates possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance. Writes to field representatives, medical personnel, and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies. Declines excessive risks. Authorizes reinsurance of policy when risk is high. Decreases value of policy when risk is substandard to limit company obligation, and specifies applicable endorsements, or applies rating to ensure safe and profitable distribution of risks, using rate books, tables, code books, computer records, and other reference materials. Workers typically specialize by type of insurance coverage, such as life, health, property and liability, or multi-line insurance, and by individual or group underwriting. Within different types of coverage, workers may further specialize in areas, such as pension, workers' compensation, property, marine, automobile, homeowner, or fire.

Insurance Counsel

Advises management of insurance company on legality of insurance transactions: studies court decisions, and recommends changes in wording of insurance policies to conform with law or to protect company from unwarranted claims. Advises claims department personnel of legality of claims filed on company to ensure against undue payments. Advises personnel engaged in drawing up of legal documents, such as insurance contracts and release papers. May specialize in one phase of legal work, such as claims or contracts.

Insurance Claims Processor

Adjudicates benefit claims and processes claims for payment. Analyzes and answers inquiries regarding claim adjudication, including method of payment, co-pay or deductible amounts, and/or reason for denial. Requests all information from internal or outside sources to ascertain completeness and validity of claim including coordination of benefits information. : Compares data on claim application, death certificate, or physician's statement with policy file and other company records to ascertain validity and to adjudicate the claim. Analyzes claims to determine extent of liability and settles claims with claimants in accordance with policy provisions. Researches claim as needed. Corresponds with agents and claimants, or interviews them in person to correct errors or omissions on claim forms and to investigate questionable entries. Pays claimant amount due. May investigate claims in field.

Insurance Reinsurance Clerk

Performs complex clerical and administrative support activities involving insurance and reinsurance contracts. Prepares reinsurance applications and contracts and ascertains reinsurance liability, working for either prime insurer or reinsurer. In consideration of liability limits, ascertains the amount of risk on each item that needs to be reinsured by other insurers or ascertains the amount of risk on each item the company is willing to reinsure from prime insurer. Selects reinsurers who may accept part of ceded liability. Accepts reinsurers and their liability for cash values and dividends.: Prepares applications. Determines the amount of each premium due. Prepares abstract for contracts. Receives reinsurance application from prime insurer. Determines amount of insurance already held on risk from company records and calculates reinsurance that company can accept, based on limit of liability. Prepares notice of acceptance or rejection, based on limit of liability and action of underwriter. Verifies computations made by prime insurer.

Insurance Cancellation Clerk

Cancels insurance policies as requested by agents. Reviews computer listing of cancellation data or retrieves expiration information. Verifies policy number. Computes refunds.: Types cancellation correspondence and mails with canceled policy to policyholder. Types cancellation notice and routes to bookkeeping department for recording. Mails cancellation notice to agent.

Insurance Review Clerk

Performs a wide variety of duties ensuring the accuracy and completeness of insurance policies and applications. Work may exist at organizations providing insurance or at organizations who are recipients of insurance payments. Reviews insurance applications to ensure that all questions have been answered. Assists in identifying problems and ensures that the insurance information is accurate. Verifies insurance policy benefit information. Ensures insurance information and appropriate referrals have been completely and accurately obtained. Identifies special policy clauses or pre-existing conditions and verifies effective date of policies.: Verifies insurance policy benefits for new and returning patients with carriers and employers. Ensures all insurance information has been completely and accurately obtained. Documents all pertinent insurance information. Obtains authorization/pre-certification prior to the patient's visit or scheduled admission, or immediately following admission. Documents information given or received to support actions taken on insurance charges or referral issues. Educates patients and families on insurance issues. Communicates patient's fiscal responsibility in a professional manner. Notifies appropriate work units of patient's insurance coverage, authorizations, or status. Identifies all patients without third party financial benefits and directs them for financial counseling according to policies and procedures. Receives and reviews contracts to understand the contract provisions. Interprets managed care contracts for insurance coverage. Provides support to revenue cycle work units and other work units as assigned. May correspond with sales personnel to inform them of status of application being processed, and to encourage prompt delivery of policies to policyholders. May collect initial premiums and issue receipts. May compile periodic reports on new business for management. Performs other duties as assigned.

Medical Nursing Instructor

Demonstrates and teaches patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students and nursing personnel and instructs them in principles and application and improved methods of physical, biological, and psychological subjects related to nursing. Lectures to students, conducts and supervises laboratory work, issues assignments, and directs seminars and panels. Supervises student nurses and demonstrates patient care in clinical units of hospital. Requires an RN license in addition to experience and/or additional training.: Prepares and administers examinations, evaluates student progress, and maintains records of student classroom and clinical experience. Participates in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline. Cooperates with medical and nursing personnel in evaluating and improving teaching and nursing practices. Develops, directs, and coordinates in-service orientation and continued education programs for nursing personnel. Conducts training programs for staff development and in improved methods of nursing services and procedures. Gives refresher training as needed. May specialize in specific subject, such as anatomy, chemistry, psychology, or nutrition, or in type of nursing activity, such as nursing of medical or surgical patients. May conduct classes for patients in health practices and procedures.
