Researches, develops, plans, and designs mechanical and electromechanical products and systems that may involve nanotechnology. Oversees and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. Activities may involve but are not limited to electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines, power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing, etc. Requires a degree in mechanical engineering. Excludes supervisory and paraprofessional level positions.: Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application. Designs products or systems, such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems, applying knowledge of engineering principles. Plans and oversees engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications. Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment. May design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software. May use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for design data processing and for developing alternative designs. May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions. May specialize in specific field of mechanical engineering, such as heat transfer, hydraulics, electromechanical, controls and instrumentation, robotics, nuclear systems, tooling, air-conditioning and refrigeration; or in type of product, such as propulsion systems or machinery and mechanical equipment; or in type of work, such as steam or gas generation and distribution, steam plant engineering, or system planning.

Mechanical Engineer Staff

Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment as centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.

Building Maintenance Supervisor Mechanical

Supervises and coordinates activities of skilled trades workers engaged in maintaining and repairing equipment, structures, utility systems, buildings, and grounds. Prepares work schedules and gives work assignments to subordinates. This position typically reports to a manager and is the first level of supervision in the organization.: Directs workers engaged in major painting projects; performing structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings; and maintaining and repairing building utility systems, such as electrical wiring and controls, heating and ventilating systems. Supervises workers engaged in installing, servicing, and repairing mechanical equipment. Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies. Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. Performs related work as required. May supervise security to protect employees and property. May direct workers engaged in ground maintenance activities, such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, raking and disposing of leaves and refuse, and snow removal. May supervise custodial services. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Mechanical Project Manager

Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of mechanical construction projects, resources, and client relationships to ensure that goals or objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Heads scheduling, management of key deliverables, coordination with field crews, and coordinating with design/engineering team.: Analyzes and clarifies project goals and objectives. Prepares estimates, compiles submittal packages, prepares RFIs, and participates in contract negotiation. Reviews project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects. Establishes work plan and multidisciplinary staffing for each phase of project, and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel. Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required. Prepares project reports for management, client, or others. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems. Reviews, approves, and monitors construction schedule provided by contractors. Analyzes and negotiates change orders. Coordinates and follows up with subcontractors in expediting change order quotes and monthly billings. Attends construction meetings, interfaces with clients, and writes reports. Ensures timely completion of projects.

Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing mechanical parts of pumps, cranes, compressors, ditch diggers, automobiles, trucks, tractors, pipelaying machines, and similar equipment used in constructing pipelines, transporting oil and other fluids, and in related oil field and construction or airport maintenance activities: inspects defective equipment in shop or field to determine extent of wear or damage. Performs other duties as described under supervisor. May contract repair work. May arrange for sale or purchase of equipment. May supervise workers engaged in repairing company-owned railroad cars. May travel to work sites to supervise and coordinate activities of workers and be designated traveling-maintenance supervisor.

Mechanical Engineering Manager

Manages and coordinates activities of employees engaged in the design and development of new or modified products. Coordinates the creation of blueprints and other engineering data. Plans and establishes engineering schedules and follows up performance against estimates. The manager level is typically the second level of management and may have first level supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller organizations the manager may be a first level supervisor.: Ensures accuracy of drawings and adherence to established organizational standards and objectives. Oversees compilation of cost control and statistical data. Manages development of material selection standards. Approves process specification and design standards. Recommends new policies or procedures as necessary. Prepares and controls departmental annual budget. Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.

Mechanical Engineering Teacher

Teach courses pertaining to the application of physical laws and principles of engineering for the development of machines, materials, instruments, processes, and services. Include teachers of subjects, such as chemical, civil, electrical, industrial, mechanical, mineral, and petroleum engineering. Include both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of both teaching and research. Exclude 'Computer Science Teachers, Postsecondary' (25-1021).

Mechanical Engineering Director

Plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields. Exclude 'Natural Sciences Managers' (11-9121).
