Shipping & Receiving Supervisor

Supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in shipping and receiving of products, components, and/or replacement parts and in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks, according to established schedules and weight limits of states. Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded boxcars and truck doors. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. Maintains vehicle maintenance report. Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas. Maintains reports, records, and documentation to reflect department activities. Compiles records of unfilled orders. Prepares bills of lading. Prepares records for management and maintains appropriate shipping and receiving documentation. Posts weight and shipping charges. Analyzes performance of existing shipping and receiving systems, evaluating and recommending new programs to improve distribution methods and implement cost reductions. May hire, train, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. May assist workers in shipping and receiving activities.

Shipping Checker

Verifies quantity, quality, labeling, and addressing of products and items of merchandise ready for shipment at establishment. Compares items packed with customer's order and other identifying data.: Counts, weighs, measures, or examines packaging and contents of items for conformance to company specifications. Affixes postage on packages, using postal meter. May oversee crew of workers engaged in loading and bracing material in railroad cars or trucks.

Shipping Clerk

Performs clerical duties involved in the shipping of materials. Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.: Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons, using stenciling equipment. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers. Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding. Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape, using strapping machine. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes items to departments. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. May keep records on outgoing shipments and prepare items for shipment. May operate tier-lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.

Shipping Packer

Packs wrapped or packaged products into shipping containers, following shipping specifications.: Seals, glues, nails, bands, labels, and/or stencils shipping containers to assure closure and proper protection and identification. May form shipping containers including boxes, crates, cartons, or other shipping containers. May use of hand and power tools to form shipping container according to blueprints or other specifications. May attach label onto container. May weigh product to verify accuracy of packing machine scales.

Shipping & Receiving Clerk

Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.: Records receipt of incoming materials and equipment. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records and reports shortages and discrepancies, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Routes checked incoming materials, supplies, or equipment to the stockroom, appropriate departments, or other areas. Prepares products or materials for shipment. Assembles shipping containers or selects pre-assembled containers, and inserts items to be shipped into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding. Closes and seals packages to be shipped. Recommends method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. Affixes shipping labels, identifying information, and shipping instructions onto packed cartons or containers. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Prepares bills of lading and maintains documentation of goods shipped. Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. May operate tier-lift truck or use hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work areas. May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments. May perform only shipping or receiving activities, receive damaged or defective goods returned to establishment, or receive unsold products returned and be designated accordingly.

Aircraft Shipping Checker

Examines completed aircraft to ensure that spare parts, accessories, or subassemblies, itemized on packing and loading sheet, are aboard craft before delivery to customer: examines blueprints showing location of parts in aircraft, verifies that part is aboard, and records part serial numbers on packing sheet. Reports shortages of parts and subassemblies, as indicated by packing and loading sheet, to designated department. Reads various work orders and operational records and enters such data as contract number, test flight time, maintenance and repair orders, and engine run-up time (engine test time) of aircraft in logbooks that accompany completed aircraft. May obtain spare parts from storeroom and forward them for packing and crating. May load crated or loose parts into aircraft.

Shipping & Receiving Weigher

Weighs and records weight of filled containers, cargo of loaded vehicles, or rolls of materials, such as cotton, sugarcane, paper, cloth, plastic, and tobacco, to keep receiving and shipping records: reads scale dial to ascertain weight and records weight on ticket, product, or material; or subtracts tare from gross weight to obtain net weight of product or material; or inserts ticket into automatic scale recorder that prints weight on ticket. May convey objects to scale, using handtruck, and lift objects onto scale. May record information on weight ticket, such as grade and yardage. May be designated according to item weighed as cloth weigher; garment weigher; roll weigher; tobacco weigher. May signal yard engineer to move cars on and off scale and be designated scaler. May weigh only incoming or outgoing materials or products and be designated receiving weigher; shipping weigher.

Shipping Order Clerk

Requisitions transportation from freight carriers to ship plant products: reads shipping orders to determine quantity and type of transportation needed. Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for loading products. Annotates shipping orders to inform shipping department of loading location and time of arrival of transportation. May perform other clerical tasks, such as typing and mailing bills, typing correspondence, and keeping files.
