Supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers, such as inspectors, precision workers, machine setters and operators, assemblers, fabricators, and plant and system operators. Exclude team or work leaders.

Machine Shop Machine Setter

Sets up and adjusts machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, drills and punch presses, grinders, gear hobbers, and plastic molding machines for other workers, such as production-machine tenders, according to specifications and tooling instructions, applying knowledge of machining methods: reads blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, fixtures, and cutting tools to be used. Installs and adjusts holding device and fastens specified cutting and shaping tools in position to enable operator to produce finished workpiece to specifications, using handtools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers. Selects and sets speed and feed of machine according to type of operation and specified material and finish. Starts machine to obtain first-run workpiece and verifies dimensional tolerances, using micrometers, gauges, and templates. Changes worn cutting tools and adjusts operation of machine, such as cutting speed, feed rate, or depth of cut, when required. May replace parts on machines, such as bearings, filters, wiring, and switches, using handtools. May instruct operators or other workers in machine setup and operation. May set up machines and equipment other than machine tools, such as welding machine and flame cutting equipment.

Production Assistant

Assists with preproduction planning of recording and transmitting broadcasts. Assists with postproduction duties such as editing and dubbing. Typically requires a degree in communications or television; however, some companies may accept equivalent education and experience combined.: Sets up and controls television production equipment, such as cameras, lights, microphones and microphone booms, and recording equipment, in studio and at locations outside of studio, to record or transmit broadcasts. Performs preventive and minor equipment maintenance, using work tools. Maintains equipment inventory and records showing that required equipment maintenance is performed on schedule. Keeps log to record equipment usage. Operates studio and mini-television (portable, shoulder-mounted) cameras. Controls console to regulate transmission of television scenes. Produces educational and training films and video recordings. May perform duties of other related occupations depending upon specific production needs of individual airwaves or closed-circuit station where workers must be able to set up and operate equipment.

Supervisor Machine Shop

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in machining of work pieces, applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, machine tool setup and operating techniques, and production machining methods. Directs trades workers engaged in machining of work pieces. Ensures efficient and quality machine shop services. Prepares and studies schedules and estimates time, cost, and labor estimates for products, services, and/or completion of job assignments. Work includes researching and evaluating the effectiveness of machinery, equipment and shop procedures and recommending and implementing changes to improve operational efficiency. This position typically reports to a manager and is the first level of supervision in the organization.: Receives requests for fabrication and/or repair of machinery, equipment, and/or component parts. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment. Determines priority and sequence of operations. Inspects work, in progress and completed, to ensure conformance to specifications. Keeps records of work, in process and completed, along with employee time and materials. Issues purchase requisitions for materials and parts necessary to perform work. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action. Performs related work as required.

Machine Shop Maintenance Supervisor

Assigns and directs the activities of maintenance personnel in a machine shop. Oversees the maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding of various production machines and equipment. Ensures staffing and equipment levels match business activity levels.: Assigns jobs according to priorities to maintain scheduled completion dates. Assists in the troubleshooting and repair of equipment. Ensures the work assignment schedule is being achieved and provides directions in overcoming obstacles. Maintains complete, accurate, and up-to-date records of all maintenance activity, including routine and preventative maintenance and unscheduled repairs. Establishes and documents policies and procedures for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment. Promotes, maintains, and enforces safe and healthy working conditions for all employees in accordance with legislative requirements and company standards. Ensures equipment is safe in order to produce expected quality and quantity of product. Coordinates the maintenance program, including reviewing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating with contract services for repair services not performed in house and other vendors to ensure services are cost effective and meet quality standards. Oversees inventory program consisting of both facility and machine parts. Ensures compliance with mechanical, electrical, and all other municipal and State codes. Orients, trains, and instructs all employees in the safe and efficient performance of their duties.

Machine Shop Supervisor

Machine Shop Supervisor Tool

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in custom-machining metallic and nonmetallic workpieces to produce, maintain, or repair parts for machines, molds, and equipment, applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, variety of machine-tool setup and operating techniques, metal and plastic properties, and custom-machining methods. May supervise workers in related processes, such as forming, welding, inspecting, testing, or assembling. Performs duties as described under supervisor.

Supervisor Advertising Production

Develops the subject matter and presentation of advertising. Coordinates activities of design, illustration, photography, paste-up, and computer-based design personnel to prepare advertisements for publication, and supervises workers engaged in pasting-up advertising layouts in art department or studio. : Determines arrangement of art work and photographs and selects style and size of type, considering factors such as size of advertisement, design, layout, sketches, and method or printing specified. Submits copy and instructions to printing firm. Reviews proofs of printed copy for conformance to specifications. Assigns personnel to mount printed copy and illustration on final layouts, coordinating assignments with completion of art work to ensure that schedules are maintained. Writes instructions for final margin widths and type sizes, and submits layout for printing. Examines layout proofs for quality of printing and conformance to layout.

Supervisor Production Planning & Control

Supervises work assignments in staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning. Organizes and coordinates various sections of manufacturing. Assists in planning and establishing production schedules and following up performance against estimates. This position typically reports to a Production Planning and Control Manager and is the first level of supervision.: Recommends new policies or procedures as necessary. Approves process specification and design standards. Supervises assembly of cost control and statistical data. Supervises development of material selection standards. Assists in preparation and control of departmental annual budget. Assists in administration of personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.

Assistant Production Supervisor

Assists supervisor in coordinating activities of workers engaged in manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of equipment, procedures, and specifications. Assigns workers to workstations to meet production requirements. : Interprets process specifications for workers. Monitors production and adjusts work assignments, supply of material, and machine operation when necessary. Transports materials between production and storage areas. Repairs various machines, using hand tools and power tools. Refers extensive machine repairs to maintenance personnel. Confers with supervisor to receive instructions and exchange production information. Tests random samples of product, using various test equipment, to verify that products meet specifications. Periodically recalibrates test equipment. Trains workers in equipment operation. May perform duties of absent workers to maintain production.
