Mental Health Manager

Directs program that provides psychological social work assistance to mentally or emotionally disturbed patients of hospitals, clinics, and other medical centers, and to their families, collaborating with psychiatric and allied team in diagnoses and treatment plans. To carry out the responsibilities of this position requires advanced studies in the field of psychology or psychiatry.: Directs the activities of Psychologists and other members of health team. Directs the investigation of patient's family and social background pertinent to diagnosis and treatment. Assists in providing self-care training and therapeutic treatments to residents of mental retardation center or other care and treatment institution. Demonstrates activities, such as bathing and dressing, to train residents in daily self-care practices. Converses with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction. : Serves meals and eats with residents to act as role model. Accompanies residents on shopping trips and instructs and counsels residents in purchase of personal items. Aids staff in administering therapeutic activities, such as physical exercises, occupational arts and crafts, and recreational games, to residents. Restrains disruptive residents to prevent injury to themselves and others. Observes and documents residents' behaviors, such as speech production, feeding patterns, and toilet training, to facilitate assessment and development of treatment goals. Attends to routine health-care needs of residents under supervision of medical personnel. May give medications as prescribed by physician. May train parents or guardians in care of deinstitutionalized residents.

Manages the Mental Health Department staff and implements strategies relative to the development and management of related services. Typically requires a bachelor's degree with seven years of related health plan experience.: Manages mental health and substance abuse programs to ensure that appropriate professional and cost effective care is provided to all patients. Conducts neutral exchange services. This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree in psychology or social work and two years of patient care experience.
