Performs related duties, such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems. May be identified according to subject matter taught.

Science Teacher

Instructs students in science in an educational institution. Prepares lesson plans and establishes course goals. Plans daily classroom work based on teaching outline prepared for course of study to meet curriculum requirements.: Demonstrates an effective working knowledge of the subject matter and research-based best practices. Selects books and supplies for courses. Provides classroom and individual instruction, demonstrating methods and procedures to pupils. Observes and evaluates pupils' work to determine student progress or to make suggestions for improvement. Adapts course of study and training methods to meet student's needs and abilities. Confers with student, parent, and/or counselor to resolve student's behavioral or academic problems. Operates learning aids and science equipment, such as computers, projectors, and microscopes. Oversees and monitors the use of all resources and equipment. Types material for lessons, and operates duplicating equipment to reproduce instructional materials. Takes attendance. Grades homework and tests and records results. Accompanies students on field trips. May specialize in teaching one or more areas of science, such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, etc. May order, store, and inventory science and laboratory supplies. May prepare requisitions for library materials and stockroom supplies. May direct planning and supervision of student contests and arranging of science fairs. May teach students with disabilities. May be required to have certification from State.

Elementary School Teacher

Teaches elementary school students academic, social, and motor skills in public or private schools. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school. Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class. A bachelor's degree in education is required for carrying out the responsibilities for this job.
