Sells insurance to new and current clients. Compiles lists of prospective clients to provide leads for additional business. Contacts prospective clients and explains features and merits of policies offered, recommending amount and type of coverage based on analysis of prospect's circumstances, and utilizing persuasive sales techniques. : Calculates and quotes premium rates for recommended policies. Establishes sales goals and plans to assure that each agent contributes to the overall organization objectives. Ensures that all systems, procedures, and insurance company regulations are communicated to and complied with by all personnel in the production department.: Develops and maintains a comprehensive sales training program to assure meeting the agency standards of performance. Conducts periodic reviews for organization employees to assure attainment of goals and proper compensation arrangements. Reviews all activities relating to the public, customers, and organizations to avoid issues involving potential errors and omissions. Maintains an active and effective role in evaluating and choosing the right companies for the agency. Reviews activity reports to ensure that personnel have achieved sales quotas, processed claims promptly, or credited collections to policyholders' accounts. Confers with company officials to plan and develop methods and procedures to increase sales, lower costs, and obtain greater efficiency. Interprets, implements, and enforces company policies. Prepares and submits activity reports. Develops a sales budget to insure conformance to organization sales goals and objectives. May reconcile earned commissions with commission advances on sales personnel.

Insurance Manager

Administers and manages implementation of insurance needs for individuals, businesses, and organizations, utilizing knowledge of tax and insurance strategies, securities, insurance, pension plans, and real estate. Manages those, including brokers, who prepare and submit documents to implement coverages selected. Oversees administration of claims and adjustments. Typically reports to a director.: Understands organization's assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, tax status, and financial objectives. Analyzes organization's financial status and develops financial plan based on analysis of data.

Insurance Branch Manager

Manages and coordinates activities of branch office of insurance company, agency or insurance brokerage firm. Hires and trains workers in performing activities, such as selling insurance, processing insurance claims, or underwriting. The manager level is typically the second level of management and may have first level supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller companies the manager may be a first level supervisor over subordinate staff.: Reviews activity reports to ensure that personnel have achieved sales quotas, processed claims promptly, or credited collections to policyholders' accounts. Confers with company officials to plan and develop methods and procedures to increase sales, lower costs, and obtain greater efficiency. Interprets, implements, and enforces company policies. Insurance Licensing Supervisor

Directs and coordinates activities of departmental personnel engaged in investigating regulated activities to ensure compliance with federal, state, or municipal laws, utilizing knowledge of agency's purposes, rules, regulations, procedures, and practices: reviews agency's current work load status, schedules, and individual personnel assignments and expertise to establish priorities and to determine ability to accept and complete future commitments. Assigns specific duties to inspectors or investigator either directly or through subordinate supervisors. Reviews work reports, papers, rulings, and other records prepared by subordinate personnel for clarity, completeness, accuracy, and conformance with agency policies. Routes approved reports and records to designated individuals, such as director, regulatory agency for action or for information. May participate in or make initial or advanced level investigations, tests, or rulings. May testify in court or before control or review board. May be required to be certified in designated speciality area. May be designated according to function or agency as business regulation investigator; child day care program supervisor; feed inspection supervisor; insurance licensing supervisor; meat and poultry specialist supervisor; petroleum products district supervisor; poultry specialist supervisor; public utilities complaint analyst supervisor.

Hospital Insurance Representative

Interprets hospital and medical insurance services and benefits to contracting hospital personnel. Discusses contract provisions and hospital claims forms with medical and hospital personnel. : Instructs hospital clerical staff in resolving problems concerning billing and admitting procedures. Writes reports outlining hospital and contract benefits for incorporation into brochures and pamphlets. May travel from city to city.

Insurance Underwriter

Reviews insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate individuals and groups for insurance and accepts or rejects applications, following establishment underwriting standards. Examines such documents as application form, inspection report, insurance maps, and medical reports to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property. : Reviews company records to determine amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks, and evaluates possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance. Writes to field representatives, medical personnel, and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies. Declines excessive risks. Authorizes reinsurance of policy when risk is high. Decreases value of policy when risk is substandard to limit company obligation, and specifies applicable endorsements, or applies rating to ensure safe and profitable distribution of risks, using rate books, tables, code books, computer records, and other reference materials. Workers typically specialize by type of insurance coverage, such as life, health, property and liability, or multi-line insurance, and by individual or group underwriting. Within different types of coverage, workers may further specialize in areas, such as pension, workers' compensation, property, marine, automobile, homeowner, or fire.

Insurance Commercial Property Underwriter

Reviews individual applications for insurance to evaluate degree of risk involved and accepts applications, following company's underwriting policies. Examines such documents as application form, inspection report, insurance maps, and medical reports to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant's financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of real property. : Reviews company records to ascertain amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks, and evaluates possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance. Declines risks that are too excessive to obligate company. Dictates correspondence for field representatives, medical personnel, and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company's underwriting policies. When risk is excessive, authorizes reinsurance, or when risk is substandard, limits company's obligation by decreasing value of policy, specifying applicable endorsements, or applying rating to ensure safe and profitable distribution of risks, using rate books, tables, code books, and other reference material. Typically workers who underwrite one type of insurance do not underwrite others and are designated according to type of insurance underwritten.
