Janitorial Supervisor

Supervises and coordinates activities of unskilled and service employees engaged in cleaning and maintaining facilities and equipment of commercial, industrial, or other establishments. Supervises those who do minor and routine painting and maintenance activities and keep building and grounds in clean and orderly condition. Oversees those who may sweep and mop or scrub hallways and stairs, empty trash and garbage containers, clean bathrooms and replace supplies, and/or replace air conditioner filters. Assigns tasks to workers, and inspects completed work for conformance to standards. This position typically reports to a manager and is the first level of supervision in the organization.: Issues supplies and equipment. Notifies management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment. Trains new workers, recommends discharge of incompetent workers, and performs other personnel duties as required. May requisition or purchase supplies and equipment.

Develops and monitors quality control standards, performs inspections and provides technical guidance and direction to staff involved in cleaning activities. Ensures that adequate precautions are taken for controlling cross infections. Evaluates and make recommendations concerning cleaning products and equipment. Ensures that a sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained. Determines fiscal requirements and prepares and monitors the department budget. Maintains records and prepares periodic reports and analyses showing progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations. Periodically inventories supplies and equipment and evaluates product selection and contract services. Organizes and directs departmental training programs, resolves personnel problems, hires new employees, and evaluates employee performance and working relationships. Regulates work flow, assigns duties to workers, and inspects work for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness. Inventories stock to ensure adequate supplies. Issues supplies and equipment to workers. Hires, trains, and motivates qualified workers for housekeeping and laundry departments. Investigates complaints regarding housekeeping and laundry services and equipments, and takes corrective action. Examines rooms, halls, and lobbies to determine need for remodeling and makes recommendations to management.
