Environmental Director

Directs and oversees activities related to environmental control including staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning. Develops and maintains new and current programs and policies to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local environmental and safety and health regulations and files required reports. Identifies all current and potential environmental risks and takes appropriate measures to eliminate or control them. Advises management on steps to prevent or mitigate environmental issues in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations and with organization goals and objectives. Stays current with governmental compliance requirements and completes all required reports. Manages staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning activities. The manager level is typically the second level of management and may have first level supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller companies the manager may be a first level supervisor over subordinate environmental engineering staff.: Administers personnel functions including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel. Recommends new policies or procedures as necessary. Manages department budget. Plans and establishes schedules and follows up performance against estimates. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Manager Environmental Research

Schedules and assigns duties to staff research scientists and engineers based on evaluation of their knowledge of specific disciplines. : Confers with project scientists and research engineers to formulate research plan, coordinate project activities, and establish reporting procedures. Prepares environmental research project feasibility and progress reports. Coordinates activities of research personnel conducting successive phases of problem analysis, solution proposals, and testing. Reviews technical aspects of project to assist staff and assess productivity of lines of research. Reviews project operations to ensure coordination of efforts and timely submission of reports. Analyzes reports to evaluate program effectiveness and budgetary needs. Approves expenditures necessary for completion of project. Coordinates planning, testing, and operating phases to complete project. Confers with local regulatory agencies to discover local environmental quality standards, industrial practices, and new developments in pollution abatement. May provide technical assistance to agencies conducting related environmental studies.

Environmental Scientist

Conducts research to identify and abate or eliminate sources of pollutants that affect people, wildlife, and their environments. Analyzes and reports measurements and observations of air, water, soil, and other sources to make recommendations on how best to clean and preserve the environment. Designs and monitors waste disposal sites, preserves water supplies, and reclaims contaminated land and water. Usual requirement is minimum of a bachelor's degree in the field of scientific and/or engineering disciplines. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Plans and conducts environmental research studies to develop methods or theories of abating or controlling sources of environmental pollutants, utilizing knowledge of principles and concepts of various scientific and engineering disciplines. Requires advanced study in the field of research in environmental sciences. Determines data collection methods to be employed in research projects and surveys. Plans and develops research models, using knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and physical science concepts and approaches. Identifies and analyzes sources of pollution to determine their effects. Collects and synthesizes data derived from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples. Prepares graphs, charts, and statistical models from synthesized data, using knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and engineering analysis techniques. Analyzes data to assess pollution problems, establishes standards, and develops approaches for control of pollution.

Environmental Services Custodial Manager

Manages institutional housekeeping programs within a continuing care retirement community (CCRC), nursing home facility, long-term care facility, hospital, or other patient care facility to create an aesthetically pleasing and clean environment and to ensure consistent quality and service in cleaning functions. Manages and coordinates housekeeping functions to support sanitation and infection control standards and to meet regulatory standards.: Regulates daily activities of staff, providing necessary guidance and support to maintain quality performance standards. Analyzes and plans schedules and programs to provide adequate staffing, supplies, and equipment for the performance of duties. Establishes standards and procedures for work of housekeeping staff. Develops, initiates, and maintains quality control standards relative to the organization, OSHA, Department of Health Services, JCAHO, and other governing agency regulations and standards. Evaluates and makes recommendations concerning cleaning products and equipment. Ensures that a sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment are ordered and maintained. Determines fiscal requirements and prepares and monitors the department budget. Maintains records and prepares periodic reports and analyses showing progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations. Inventories supplies and equipment periodically and evaluates product selection and contract services. Organizes and directs departmental and quality assurance training programs, resolves personnel problems, hires new employees, and evaluates employee performance and working relationships. Coordinates activities with those of other departments. Responds to complaints regarding the quality of housekeeping services. Reads trade journals and publications to keep informed of trends in infection control, new and improved cleaning methods, products, supplies, and equipment.

Social Services Aide

Assists professional staff of public social service agency, performing a variety of tasks. Typically requires a two-year college degree in a related or appropriate field; however, some companies may accept equivalent education and experience combined.: Interviews individuals and family members to compile information on social, educational, criminal, institutional, or drug history. Visits individuals in homes or attends group meetings to provide information on agency services, requirements, and procedures. Provides rudimentary counseling to agency clients. Oversees day-to-day group activities of residents in institution. Meets with youth groups to acquaint them with consequences of delinquent acts. Refers individuals to various public or private agencies for assistance. May care for children in client's home during client's appointments. May accompany disabled individuals to appointments.
