Operations Director

Directs, develops, implements, disseminates, and administers operations strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of organization's goals and objectives. Directs the operations function in conjunction with business growth, introduction of new operational systems, meeting organizational financial objectives, and meeting organizational goals in relation to safety, quality, and timely delivery of products or services. Assists with development of organization's policies, practices, and attainment of operating goals, while maintaining some management responsibility. Typically reports to the Chief Operations Officer and Operations Manager(s) report to this position.: Assesses and assists in upgrading the management talent base within operations to achieve growth and meet market needs. Coordinates needed support to operations areas through intradepartmental interface for smooth workflow and cost-efficient product or service. Manages and assists in coordinating efforts between support departments within the organization. Contributes to the overall short- and long-range planning process and in the establishment and assessment of the organization's annual operating budget. Plans, prepares, controls, monitors, and forecasts organization's direct and/or indirect budgets. Directs the capital expenditure and asset redeployment activities. Ensures attainment of efficient and economical performance in relation to profit and year-end goals. Participates in the investigation and implementation of new services, manufacturing processes, and product or systems technologies to meet the organization's objectives. Establishes, implements, revises, and maintains policies and procedures related to operations. Oversees compliance of established policies.

Operations Research Director

Directs and coordinates activities of operations research department, using engineering and scientific research methods to assist engineering, operations, sales, or a major division of an organization in identifying means for attaining improvement, cost reduction, and/or optimization of performance. Reviews analyses of activities, costs, and operations to determine department or division progress toward stated goals and objectives. Assists Top Research Officer in planning, developing, and administering policies, procedures, and objectives of the operations research functions in accordance with organization's objectives. Typically reports Top Research Officer and directly oversees Operation Research Manager.: Confers with Top Research Officer and other administrative personnel to review achievements and discuss required changes in goals or objectives resulting from current status and conditions. Directs research surveys and studies and reviews compilation and analysis proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures. Submits proposals considered feasible to management for further consideration and recommends allocation of funds to support them. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project. Prepares reports on progress and recommends the addition, expansion, or discontinuance of projects. Prepares and administers operations research budget. May recruit, hire, and train department staff, evaluate staff performance, and develop goals and objectives for staff. May negotiate contracts with consulting firms to perform research studies.

Operations Research Manager

Manages activities of operations research department of industrial or non-profit firm in accordance with established policies to provide improvement, cost reduction, and/or optimization of performance. Provides guidance and technical assistance in engineering and scientific research methods to staff. First level supervisors and/or Operations Research Analysts typically report to this position.: Monitors research projects through staff's preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences. Reviews and analyzes results of research surveys, studies, or programs, and the compilation and analysis of factors, and submits recommendations to management for approval or action. Plans, develops, and implements new approved programs and ideas and recommends the expansion or discontinuance of current projects or programs. Contributes to the preparation of department budget and schedules, and controls research expenditures within approved limitations. May recruit, hire, and train department staff, evaluate staff performance, and develop goals and objectives for staff.

Computer Operations Director

Plans, schedules, and directs the development, production, and administrative processing of the organization's computer operations. Assigns and schedules work, or delegates work to subordinate managers and supervisors, and reviews work. Ensures rapid, accurate, and efficient processing of corporation's workload by use of a computer-based system. Builds systems capability that reflects the highest state of technical sophistication consistent with the corporation's needs and budget. Ensures security of company's database. Recommends insights that contribute to overall company strategic management. Ensures corporation makes maximum use of the general system by providing for the education and training of the principal users. This position typically reports to the Top Information Technology Officer and normally has managers reporting to it.: Consults with management to determine information requirements of management, scientists, or engineers, determine boundaries and priorities of new projects, and discuss system capacity and equipment acquisitions. Confers with department heads involved with proposed projects to ensure cooperation and further define nature of project. Confers with computer analysts or engineers to define equipment needs. Reviews project feasibility studies. Maintains a professional, technical, and clerical staff capable of meeting current and future needs. Establishes work standards. Interprets policies, purposes, and goals of organization to subordinates. Prepares progress reports to inform management of project status and deviation from goals. Contracts with management specialists, technical personnel, or vendors to solve problems. Reviews reports of computer and peripheral equipment production, malfunctions, and maintenance to ascertain costs and plan department operating changes. Analyzes department workflow and workers' job duties to recommend reorganization or departmental realignment within company. Participates in decisions concerning staffing and promotions within data processing department. Directs training of subordinates. Keeps current on new developments in information technology, and plans for future upgrades and organizational changes. May prepare proposals and solicit sale of systems analysis, programming, and computer services to outside firms. May assist staff to diagnose and solve computer equipment problems. May participate in technical projects, such as writing equipment specifications or developing computer programs for specified applications.

Operations Research Supervisor

Reviews daily logs and reports to detect recurring slowdowns or errors. Consults with software and hardware vendors to solve computer processing problems. Meets with users to determine quality of service and identify needs. Ensures organization makes maximum use of the general system by providing for the education and training of the principal users. Meets with data processing managers to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and service to users. Evaluates new software and hardware to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing software and hardware. Evaluates proposed data processing projects to assess adequacy of existing hardware, and recommends purchase of equipment. Develops budget and monitors expenditures. May direct and coordinate activities of tape library.

Operations Research Analyst

Conducts analyses of management and operational problems using engineering and scientific methods like mathematical modeling, statistics, and algorithms to help with decision-making in complex problems which are concerned with coordination and execution of the operations within an organization, in order to improve or optimize the performance of the organization. Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in field of specialty. Positions covered by this definition are characterized by the inclusion of work that requires an understanding of both theories and principles. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Provides research support for specific projects and programs. Projects may involve collecting and analyzing data to formulate recommendations, policies, or solutions. Projects may involve mathematical or simulation models of problem for solution by computers or other methods. Analyzes problem in terms of information and conceptualizes and defines problem. Studies information and selects plan from competitive proposals that afford maximum probability of profit or effectiveness in relation to cost or risk. Prepares model of problem in form of one or several equations that relates constants and variables, restrictions, alternatives, conflicting objectives, and their numerical parameters. Defines data requirements and gathers and validates information applying judgment and statistical tests. Specifies manipulative or computational methods to be applied to model. Performs validation and testing of model to ensure adequacy, or determines need for reformulation. Prepares reports to management defining problem, evaluation, and possible solution. Evaluates implementation and effectiveness of research. Projects may involve collecting and analyzing data to formulate recommendations, policies, or solutions. May involve mathematical or simulation models of problem for solution by computers or other methods. May design, conduct, and evaluate experimental operational models where insufficient data exists to formulate model. May specialize in research and preparation of contract proposals specifying competence of organization to perform research, development, or production work. May develop and apply time and cost networks, such as Program Evaluation and Review Techniques (PERT), to plan and control large projects. May work in association with engineers, scientists, and management personnel in business, government, health, transportation, energy, manufacturing, environmental sciences, or other technologies.

Field Sales Supervisor

Motivates and directs a field sales force to ensure maximum profits through sales of products or services in one or more territories. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the sales force, distributor management, and key customers or clients. Job is distinguished by the requirement for a technical background and advanced sales knowledge and experience.
