Export/Import Analyst

Analyzes tariff rates, freight classifications, delivery schedules, carrier capabilities and transportation regulations. Determines the most cost effective methods of preparation of freight for shipment, rates to be applied, and mode of transportation to be used. This is a professional non-supervisory position.: If import or export of goods are involved, prepares or directs the preparation of entry papers from invoice, in accordance with customs regulations and regulations of other governmental agencies bearing on importation and/or exportation of goods. Confers with shipping brokers concerning export and import papers, docking facilities, or packing and marking procedures. Advises regarding packing procedures and may inspect packed or crated goods for conformance to shipping specifications to prevent damage, delay, or penalties. Determines duty rates on goods to be imported, based on knowledge of governmental tariffs and excise taxes. Files papers, audits invoices for accuracy, and arranges for payment. Files claims with insurance company for losses, damages, and overcharges of freight shipments. Selects mode of transportation, such as air, water, railroad, or truck. May prepare and compile documents required by governments to ensure custom and excise requirements are met. May serve as intermediary between importers, merchant shipping companies, airlines, railroads, trucking companies, pipeline operators, and the customs service. May prepare papers to appeal duty charges imposed by customs service. May coordinate contacts and information between company personnel and customers. May provide for storage of imported goods and for transportation of imported goods from port to final destination. May disregard higher rates when speed is necessary. May be required to be licensed by appropriate governmental agency.

IT Web Administrator
