Chief Environmental Officer

Develops, implements, and coordinates, through support staff and lower managers, environmental plans, policies, and programs on matters involving air, land, and water conservation, to prevent or eliminate any negative environmental effect of operations that involve the organization, employees, and the public. Ensures the organization is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws regarding the environment and the safety and health of the employees and the public. Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating procedures, and goals. Confers with top management personnel preparatory to formulating fiscal budget for environmental program. Conducts management meetings and reviews program organizational policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives. Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures. Visits and confers with representatives of material and component requirements. Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in industry.

Director Environmental

Directs and oversees activities related to environmental control including staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning. Develops and maintains new and current programs and policies to ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local environmental and safety and health regulations and files required reports. Identifies all current and potential environmental risks and takes appropriate measures to eliminate or control them. Directs planning and establishing of department schedules and follows up performance against estimates. Typically reports to the Top Environmental Officer and supervises manager level employees.: Responsible for business development, quality improvement, human resources management, and recruiting and training of department staff. Recommends new policies or procedures as necessary. Oversees preparation and control of departmental annual budget. May represent company in dealings with governmental officials enforcing environmental and safety regulations.

Environmental Top Officer

Insurance Claim Examiner

Reviews settled insurance claims to determine that payments and settlements have been made in accordance with company practices and procedures: analyzes data used in settling claim to determine its validity in payment of claims. Reports overpayments, underpayments, and other irregularities. Confers with legal counsel on claims requiring litigation.

Environmental Consultant

Consults with industrial, commercial, or government clients and/or organization department heads to ascertain and define environmental need or problem area and determines scope of investigation required to obtain solution. Consults with client or organization regarding management of environmental projects, programs, and issues, which may include conducting regulatory compliance audits and dealing or negotiating with governmental environmental regulatory agencies. Conducts research and performs studies and surveys to obtain data required for solution. Analyzes problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of specific discipline or field of specialization. Requires knowledge in fields defined as physical science, geology, and/or engineering.: Prepares estimates and proposals based on project specifications and/or communication with clients. Communicates with clients to discern their needs and to provide an understanding of the activities that will be performed. Prepares and reviews site-specific work plans, sampling and analysis plans, QA/QC plans, and safety plans. Retains and coordinates with various subcontractors (e.g., excavation, drilling, demolition, private consultants, etc.) to perform environmental assessments and/or remediation activities. Collects soil, groundwater, soil vapor, storm water, and/or air samples in support of environmental investigation/remediation activities. Preserves or packages environmental samples in accordance with method-specific protocols. Evaluates analytical data and performs cursory data validation. Analyzes data to determine solutions, such as installation or implementation of alternate methods and procedures, changes in processing methods and practices, modification of machines or equipment, or redesign of products or services. Prepares technical reports to document field activities, report data, and evaluate options for the client based on interpretation of Federal, State, and county environmental regulations, rules, and guidance documents associated with environmental investigation, permitting, and remediation activities. Advises client or department heads on alternate methods of solving needs or problems, or recommends specific solution. May negotiate contract for consulting service. May specialize in providing consulting service to government in field of specialization.

Scientist Environmental

Conducts research to identify and abate or eliminate sources of pollutants that affect people, wildlife, and their environments. Analyzes and reports measurements and observations of air, water, soil, and other sources to make recommendations on how best to clean and preserve the environment. Designs and monitors waste disposal sites, preserves water supplies, and reclaims contaminated land and water. Usual requirement is minimum of a bachelor's degree in the field of scientific and/or engineering disciplines. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Plans and conducts environmental research studies to develop methods or theories of abating or controlling sources of environmental pollutants, utilizing knowledge of principles and concepts of various scientific and engineering disciplines. Requires advanced study in the field of research in environmental sciences. Determines data collection methods to be employed in research projects and surveys. Plans and develops research models, using knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and physical science concepts and approaches. Identifies and analyzes sources of pollution to determine their effects. Collects and synthesizes data derived from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples. Prepares graphs, charts, and statistical models from synthesized data, using knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and engineering analysis techniques. Analyzes data to assess pollution problems, establishes standards, and develops approaches for control of pollution.

Benefits Claim File Clerk

Files correspondence, claims, and other records associated with employee group insurance and benefits. Reads incoming material and sorts according to file system. Uses computer to track movement of records.: Places material in file cabinet, drawers, boxes, in special filing cases, or electronic files. Locates and removes material from files when requested. Keeps records of material removed, stamps material received, traces missing file, and maintains indexing information. Answers questions about records and files. Maintains database by editing information, adding new material, creating new files, and putting new filing systems into place when necessary. May utilize microfilm storage and retrieval system.

Claim Agent

Interviews property holders and adjusts damage claims resulting from activities connected with prospecting, drilling, and production of oil and gas, and laying of pipelines on private property: examines titles to property to determine their validity and acts as company agent in transactions with property owners. Investigates and assesses damage to crops, fences, and other properties, and negotiates claim settlements with property owners. Collects and prepares evidence to support contested damage claims in courts.

Government Environmental Analyst

Directs, develops, and administers state governmental program for assessment of environmental impact of proposed recreational projects: directs assessment of environmental impact and preparation of impact statements required for final evaluation of proposed actions. Directs identification and analysis of alternative proposals for handling projects in environmentally sensitive manner. Plans for enhancement of environmental setting for each proposed recreational project. Designs and directs special studies to obtain technical environmental information regarding planned projects, contacting and utilizing various sources, such as regional engineering offices, park region laboratories, and other governmental agencies. Prepares and controls budget for functions of impact-statement preparation program. Attends meetings and represents department on subjects related to program.

Environmental Project Manager

Directs and manages environmental related processes and activities associated with a project from concept to completion. Organizes, oversees, leads, and monitors the progress of environmental work assignments for the project. Develops and/or adapts environmental policies and coordinates implementation with other groups or departments.: Leads project teams to identify time frames, funding limitations, methods for accomplishing project deliverables, and allotments of available resources to project phases. Assists in the development and management of the environmental budget. Monitors and assures environmental compliance and job specific mitigation and conservation specifications from initial planning stages through completion by applying Federal and State regulations and conducting environmental impact evaluation techniques throughout the project. Identifies environmental constraints affecting the development and selection of project alternatives and works with project staff to resolve these constraints. Assures procedural adequacy of the environmental program. May develop the environmental sections of contracts.
