Vice President Engineering

Plans, develops, directs, and oversees all planning and implementation of practices, policies, programs, procedures, and personnel activities of an organization's engineering efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, design, modify, and improve company products and/or services; design testing and maintenance of production processes, machinery, and/or equipment; design and maintenance of facilities, equipment, and physical layout; reliability improvements; cost engineering; construction and engineering project management; and other related activities. Directs engineering management in formulating plans, designs, cost estimates, and specifications. Typically reports to Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer and directly supervises Engineering Director(s).: Reviews engineering designs in light of the organization's strategic goals and return on investment. Provides technical support and assistance to other operating units of the organization. Conducts special investigations and studies to evaluate efficiency of engineering programs. Confers with manufacturing and research departments to ensure product design, development, and modification are in conformance with organization's goals and objectives. Establishes budget controls. Reviews, approves, and coordinates product and process changes to maintain or improve cost/benefit ratio. Assesses working conditions to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.

Facilities Engineering Director

Manages a team of Industrial Engineers to design, improve, and install integrated systems of humans, processes, materials, and equipment. Specifies, predicts, and evaluates the results obtained from such systems. Drives continuous process improvements to ensure all business requirements are met or exceeded.: Leads the Industrial Engineering team and broader cross-functional team to drive overall process design and improvement and solve complex technical, operational, and system integration problems. Defines and manages all elements of plant operating system, including workflows, equipment capacity, staffing levels and methods, IT systems requirements, and technology applications. Applies and trains others in the use of lean operations concepts to optimize the overall system. Designs facilities, including layout of buildings, machines, and equipment, material handling equipment, and storage facilities. Engages and manages various outside contractors, vendors, suppliers, etc. Performs economic justifications on any new capital expenditure projects. Creates and maintains the capital plan. Ensures that plant bottlenecks are understood and are at sufficient capacity to achieve business requirements. Drives process improvement teams to improve business performance.

Engineering Manager

Manages and trains an engineering team and coordinates activities of engineering department to design, process, project, and develop, produce, improve, and test components, products, systems, and services. Works on or serves as a resource on projects requiring advanced knowledge of a particular field of specialization. Provides planning, direction, and coordination for all technical activities while achieving optimum use of workers, equipment, materials, and facilities. Administers personnel functions including recruiting, hiring, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, selection and placement of personnel, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments. The manager level is typically the second level of management and may have first level supervisors and/or engineers reporting to this position; however, in smaller organizations the manager may be a first level supervisor.: Plans and establishes engineering schedules and follows up performance against estimates. Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures. Manages development of material selection standards. Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects. Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. Recommends and implements new policies and procedures as directed. Initiates cost reduction proposals from other sources, compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action, and checks on results obtained. Prepares and controls department budget, forecasts operating costs of department, and directs preparation of budget requests. Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor

Supervises assignments in staffing, scheduling, coordinating, and planning of personnel engaged in manufacturing engineering activities. Organizes and coordinates various sections of engineering. Assists in planning and establishing engineering schedules and following up performance against estimates. : Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of product or service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. Supervises assembly of cost control and statistical data. Supervises development of material selection. Approves process specification and design standards. Assists in preparation and control of departmental annual budget. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Biomedical Engineering Supervisor

Provides clinical and technical support for specialized medical equipment or areas that provide specialized care to patients. Develops, administers, and ensures compliance with quality assurance measures that monitor the consistency and quality of services provided to specialized medical equipment. Monitors and enforces accreditation standards for the environment of care. : Trains Biomedical Engineering Technicians and equipment operators on the proper operation and maintenance requirements associated with specialized medical equipment. Develops and assures adherence to Clinical Engineering practices and general departmental policies. Recommends equipment purchases and standardization to supervisor based upon history and experience with use of equipment. Assures accurate and efficient maintenance of departmental records and reports.

Biomedical Engineering Head

Coordinates and supervises activities of biomedical equipment technicians engaged in maintenance, repair, and calibration of biomedical equipment. Utilizes knowledge of computer, graphics, electrical, mechanical, chemical, or other engineering principles and other related technologies. Is required to be adept in activities of employees supervised.: Analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budgets funds. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces safety regulations. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Engineering Consultant

Consults with client or department heads to define need or problem, conducts research, performs studies and surveys to obtain data, and analyzes problems to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of specific discipline or field of specialization. Requires knowledge in fields defined as technical, such as electrical engineering, construction engineering, computer engineering, other engineering fields, chemistry, scientific research, and other related technical and engineering fields. Requires a degree in engineering. Excludes supervisory and paraprofessional positions.: Consults with client or department heads to ascertain and define need or problem area and determine scope of investigation required to obtain solution. Conducts study or survey on need or problem to obtain data required for solution. Analyzes data to determine solution, such as installation of alternate methods and procedures, changes in processing methods and practices, modification of machines or equipment, or redesign of products or services. Advises client or department heads on alternate methods of solving need or problem, or recommends specific solution. May negotiate contract for consulting service. May specialize in providing consulting service to government in field of specialization. May be designated according to field of specialization such as engineering or science discipline.

Engineering Assistant

Prepares routine plans, designs, specifications, estimates, and reports under general supervision. Applies technical engineering/drafting techniques in the preparation of civil engineering drawings and other graphic material using computer-aided drafting and/or manual drafting methods. Works accurately and in compliance with drafting standards.: Collects and calculates field and departmental data needed for the preparation of designs and drawings. Indexes, reproduces, and maintains engineering documents stored in databases or in hard copy form. Makes trigonometric and other mathematical computations in the course of drafting work. Assists in the preparation of cost and quantity estimates for engineering projects. Prepares a variety of progress reports and summaries of construction projects. Maintains accurate records and files.

Industrial Engineering Technician

Studies the efficient use of personnel, materials, and machines in factories, stores, repair shops, offices, and other businesses. Prepares layouts of machinery and equipment, plans flow of work, makes statistical studies, and analyzes costs.: Prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization. Observes workers operating equipment or performing tasks to determine time involved and fatigue rate. Recommends revision of methods of operation or material handling, alterations in equipment layout, or other changes to increase production or improve standards. Studies and records time, motion, methods, and speed involved in performance of maintenance, production, clerical, and other worker operations to establish standard production rate and to improve efficiency. Aids in planning work assignments in accordance with worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays.
