Electronics Design Engineer

Designs and develops electronic components, equipment, systems, and products, applying knowledge and principles of electronic theory, design, and engineering. Performs duties as described under design engineer, products. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to formulate and test electronic designs.

Electronics Research Engineer

Conducts research on electronic phenomena, performing duties as described under research engineer.

Electronics Test Engineer

Plans, develops, and conducts tests on electronic components, products, and systems, applying knowledge and principles of electronic theory, testing methodology and procedures, and electronic engineering. Performs duties described under test engineer. May develop or use computer software and hardware to conduct tests on electronic products and systems.

Electronics Technician

Applies principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, and physics to solve technical problems. Work is more limited in scope and more practically oriented than that of scientists and engineers. Lays out, builds, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, systems, and related products and services.: Discusses layout and assembly procedures and problems with engineering personnel and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units. Develops wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion. Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. Plans, directs, and records periodic testing. Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability. Analyzes and interprets test data. Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance. Writes technical reports and develops charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations for consideration by engineers in broader determinations affecting systems design and laboratory procedures. Diagnoses cause of electronic or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective maintenance. May assemble experimental circuitry or complete prototype model according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components. May operate bench lathes, drills, or other machine tools to fabricate parts, such as coils, terminal boards, and chassis.

Communications Electronics Technician

Modifies, rebuilds, repairs, or overhauls communications electronics and electrical equipment and controls. Applies knowledge of electronics principles in determining equipment malfunctions, and applies skills in restoring communications equipment to operation.: Receives wiring diagrams, drawings, specifications, and instructions, either verbally or in writing, concerning emergency and scheduled repair, installation, and inspection work to be performed. Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and principles, wiring specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment. Plans details of working procedure to determine material or replacement needs and determines a logical approach to repair problems. Services communications electronic equipment by checking, testing, and replacing faulty components, circuit modules, printed circuit boards, vacuum tubes, and similar electronic devices. Performs plant-wide communications electronic and electrical maintenance, making operating adjustments as required. Makes sketches of parts and layout. Designs and constructs adaptations of component parts or standard parts as required. Maintains and installs communication cables, power distribution cables and wiring, and performs splicing as required. Fabricates parts as required using machine and hand tools common to the trade. Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for communications electronic and electrical equipment.

Electronics Sales Engineer

Sells electromechanical, electrical, electronic equipment, and supplies or services requiring knowledge of engineering and cost effectiveness. Calls on client representatives, in attempt to convince prospective client of desirability and practicability of products or services offered. : Reviews blueprints, plans, and other customer documents to develop and prepare cost estimates or projected increases in production from client's use of proposed equipment or services. Calls on management representatives, such as engineers, architects, or other professional and technical personnel at commercial, industrial, and other establishments in attempt to convince prospective client of desirability and practicability of products or services offered. Draws up or proposes changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services that would result in cost reduction or improvement in operations. Provides technical services to clients relating to use, operation, and maintenance of equipment. May draw up sales or service contract for products or services. May provide technical training to employees of client. May lead or direct lower level personnel.

Builds, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and modifies developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, systems, and related products. Diagnoses cause of electronic malfunction or failure of operational equipment and performs preventative and corrective maintenance.: Works with engineering personnel to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units. Develops wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion. Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability. Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry and components, and records effects on equipment performance. Follows all established procedures and standards to ensure that processes used and materials produced meet all company and customer product and quality requirements. Maintains cleanliness of assigned work areas including equipment, tools, and work surfaces. Reports equipment malfunctions, breakdowns, or any other unusual problems to the lead person or supervisor. Complies with all company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. May assist in the training of other maintenance personnel.
