Master Electrician

Supervises and participates in the construction, installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. Ensures that all primary and backup systems and equipment are fully operational. Establishes plans and procedures to maintain all equipment and systems.: Responds to customer needs to meet the overall support requirements of each facility. Uses principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems.: Assembles and tests experimental devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment and components according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles. Modifies electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of Electrical Engineer. Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment, and performs preventative and corrective maintenance. Develops wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansion, and directs personnel performing routine installation and maintenance duties. Plans, directs, and records periodic electrical testing, and recommends or initiates modification or replacement of equipment that fails to meet acceptable operating standards. May work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic devices to adjust, test, and repair equipment.

Electrical Engineering Technician

Commercial Electrician

Plans layout and installs or upgrades wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels, for business and industrial projects. Analyzes and corrects electrical problems and repair and overhauls electrical equipment and controls.: Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, following the National Electrical Code and complying with State and local building electrical codes. Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit. Pulls wiring through conduit and splices wires when necessary. Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment. Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads. Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments, such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope. Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.

Repairer Electrical

Repairs electrical components and subassemblies, such as relays, solenoids, and wiring and cable harnesses, using hand tools. : Disassembles unit and removes defective parts, using hand tools and soldering iron. Inserts new part in unit and solders connections. Repairs cable harnesses by replacing insulation, wire, and terminal lugs.

Electrician Powerhouse

Repairs and maintains electrical equipment in generating station or powerhouse. : Tests defective equipment to determine cause of malfunction or failure, using voltmeters, ammeters, and related electrical testing apparatus. Notifies plant personnel of necessary equipment downtime requiring changes from normal generating and transmission equipment operation to maintain uninterrupted service. Repairs and replaces equipment, such as relays, switches, supervisory controls, and indicating and recording instruments. Tests and repairs switchboard and equipment circuitry, interpreting wiring diagrams to trace and connect numerous wires carrying current for independent functions. Cleans and repairs brushes, commutators, windings, and bearings of generators, motors, and converters. May test and maintain transmission equipment, performing such duties as oiling circuit breakers and transformers.

Automotive Fuel & Electrical Mechanic

Inspects, maintains, and repairs vehicles by troubleshooting the complete fuel, electrical, air induction, and brake system components on various types of vehicles and equipment.: Repairs and rebuilds starters and alternators of all sizes. Diagnoses problems in injectors, pumps, and filtration systems. Establishes and follows schedules for maintaining vehicles. Maintains repair and maintenance records. Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. May train and supervise assistants.

Repairer Electrical Appliance

Installs, services, and repairs stoves, refrigerators, dishwashing machines, and other electrical household or commercial appliances, using hand tools, test equipment, and following wiring diagrams and manufacturer's specifications. : Connects appliance to power source and test meters, such as wattmeter, ammeter, or voltmeter. Observes readings on meters and graphic recorders. Examines appliance during operating cycle to detect excess vibration, overheating, fluid leaks, and loose parts. Disassembles appliance and examines mechanical and electrical parts. Traces electrical circuits, following diagram, and locates shorts and grounds, using ohmmeter. Calibrates timers, thermostats, and adjusts contact points. Cleans and washes parts, using wire brush, buffer, and solvent, to remove carbon, grease, and dust. Replaces worn or defective parts, such as switches, pumps, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, blowers, and defective wiring. Repairs and adjusts appliance motors. Reassembles appliance, adjusts pulleys, and lubricates moving parts, using hand tools and lubricating equipment.
