Medical Top Patient Care Executive

Directs, through managers, supervisors or head nurses, activities of nursing staff. Administers nursing program in hospital or other medical institution to maintaining standards of patient care. This is the highest level position in patient care.: Plans and organizes activities in nursing services, such as obstetrics, pediatrics, or surgery, or for two or more patient-care units to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and hospital administrative procedures. Access Coordinator Cable Television

Instructs trainees in use of equipment; and operates equipment, such as camera, sound mixer, and videotape deck, to film events, to copy/edit graphics, voice, and music onto videotape, for broadcast on cable television: determines time and day of class and plans outline of material to be covered. Distributes manuals, and instructs and demonstrates to trainees, care, setup and operation of equipment, such as tripods, microphones and portable camera. Prepares and administers written and practical tests to test trainees' knowledge. Determines equipment required to film event, and sets up and operates equipment, such as lights and portable camera to film event. Prepares script of filmed event. Loads videotape deck with videotape and instructs assistant to read script. Sets recording level, and records verbal description of event onto videotape, using videotaping equipment. Reviews videotape of filmed event, using videotaping equipment, to determine quality of video and color. Observes scales in video and color monitors and operates controls to adjust video and color levels. Enters written information about filmed event into graphic equipment. Plays musical selection, using stereo equipment, and adjusts controls to improve clarity and balance music. Sets inpoints and outpoints for graphics, voice, and music. Records graphics, voice, and music onto videotape, using audio/video equipment. Observes monitors to verify that video, voice, and music are synchronized during editing/copying process. Reviews assembled videotape, using videotaping equipment, to discern quality.

Patient Financial Services Director

Plans and directs business office operations of the medical facility to ensure that revenue management functions meet customer and organizational requirements. Plans and directs business office operations to include such functions as admitting, patient registration, billing, collections, and insurance claims. Typically requires a college degree in business and related managerial experience.: Assists in coordinating and maintaining patient financial services programs to ensure compliance with current payments, rules, and regulations that impact the medical center and/or physician's billing and collections process. Monitors and ensures compliance with Medicare and Medicaid documentation guidelines. Monitors and evaluates current reimbursement/payment rules and ensures that legislative and regulatory changes impacting medical billing are anticipated and communicated to the clinical faculty, staff, and departmental billing personnel. Develops techniques for effective analyses of billing and collections efforts. Oversees resolution of third party denials and assists with reimbursement appeals and problems. Prepares financial reports and analyses to show progress or adverse trends and makes appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Assists in identification of new technologies that will improve departmental operations. Develops departmental strategies to meet cash projection formulas, reduce days in Accounts Receivable, and reduce denials. Ensures compliance with State and Federal law, compliance plans, HIPAA, and JCAHO guidelines. Prepares and manages the departmental budget. Hires, develops, and motivates a qualified Patient Financial Services staff. May provide assistance to physicians in determining appropriate use of codes for maximizing reimbursement of physician services.

Patient Relations Director

Provides leadership, organization, planning, direction, and administration to the operational aspects of the Patient Relations Department and its services. Collaborates with key members of the Hospital, Physician Practice, Service Excellence, Risk Management, and Quality/Safety Departments to investigate and assist in resolving patient complaints. Oversees staff who receive complaints and establishes processes for investigation and response.: Facilitates communication between departments and providers to ensure timely resolution of complaints. Collects data and information about patient care concerns and makes recommendations as appropriate. Resolves conflicts and acts as intermediary between patients, families, and staff. Recommends establishment of policies and operating procedures to ensure positive patient-Hospital relations. Prepares reports and analyses on progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Develops and tracks annual department budget.

Physical Facilities Director

Develops and implements programs to maximize the utilization of facility assets. Develops short- and long-range facility utilization plans for facilities. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a technical area such as architecture, engineering, or related field and five years of related management experience.: Establishes policies, procedures, programs, and budgets to assure effective maintenance of the facility in accordance with regulatory requirements. Serves as a liaison between the end user and the principle processes of operations and maintenance, engineering, energy, and physical safety. Manages and oversees design development for remodeling or build out space with consultants and internal resources. Plans and oversees moves and ensures correct code compliance. Ensures that new or remodeled office spaces are complete with appropriate phone service and furniture and that janitorial services are adequate. Assists with lease acquisition and/or negotiation. Develops and implements policies and building standards for external resources assisting with projects. Maintains space and furniture/equipment inventories. Reviews and recommends space standards. Hires, trains, and motivates a qualified maintenance staff.

Patient Care Specialist

Performs a variety of technical and direct patient care services for a specialized group of patients to assist medical professional personnel in diagnostic, therapeutic, and research procedures. Assists Physician in performing diagnostic, therapeutic, and research procedures to diagnose medical and surgical problems and assists in prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.: Confers with patients to obtain information for chart and laboratory records. Orders and schedules lab studies and diagnostic procedures. Explains the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient. Assists Physician with therapeutic procedures. Performs patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Records the normal and abnormal data for review by Physician. Monitors progress of patients, reports progress to Physician, and maintains records of patient progress. Attends daily rounds and consults with Physicians, nursing personnel, and other members of the healthcare team to provide diagnostic and prognostic information. Operates equipment to monitor and obtain recordings of specific body functions. Calculates, compiles, and records data obtained from graphs and numerical readings. Participates in research projects conducted by supervising Physician. Compiles, analyzes, documents, and assists in the interpretation and evaluation of results. Calibrates and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning. Cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment. Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders as required.

Patient Accounts Representative

Analyzes, prepares, and follows up on insurance claims to include private insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid. Performs a variety of specialized clerical tasks involved in obtaining patient financial precertification and authorizations for health care services and procedures. Typically requires up to two years of experience in billing or accounting.: Organizes inpatient and outpatient claims for electronic or hard-copy mail and forwards to appropriate third party payers. Reviews claims to make sure that payer-specific billing requirements are met, follows up on billing, determines and applies appropriate adjustments, answers inquiries, and updates accounts as necessary. Provides financial counseling to patients and their families regarding charges for health care services. Determines fees for services provided and implements appropriate collection and refund actions. Assists financially responsible persons in arranging payment schedules. Determines necessity of third party sponsorship and processes patients accordingly. Examines insurance policies and other third party sponsor materials for sources of payment. Maintains records of patient's accounts and corrects, updates, and consolidates records to include the application of proper discounts to patients.
