Plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of companies or public and private sector organizations. Duties and responsibilities include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources, but are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one functional area of management or administration, such as personnel, purchasing, or administrative services. Include owners and managers who head small business establishments whose duties are primarily managerial. Exclude 'First-Line Supervisors/Managers of Retail Sales Workers' (41-1011) and workers in other small establishments.

Director Business Development Marketing

Directs the promotion of the marketing or service activities among customers or prospects; directs representatives who call on existing or potential customers. This position typically reports to the Marketing Top Officer and normally will have a Marketing Manager reporting to it; however, in smaller organizations all levels of marketing management may not be present and this may be the Head of Marketing.: Ensures that representatives are kept informed of changes in territories that might affect product sales. Makes forecasts on anticipated market sales. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress reports, etc., in order to inform management of current status or work activities. Submits reports of sales activity and maintains records. Promotes satisfactory customer relations. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Network Development Director

Directs a department responsible for developing and maintaining an integrated network of providers, hospitals, and affiliated health programs within a designated area. Develops and maintains the operations of an integrated network of providers, hospitals, and affiliated health care programs. Establishes and operates affiliated clinical programs with community providers which generate income and positions the organization as the preferred provider of care. Typically requires a bachelor's degree with seven years of related managed care administration experience and strong capitation negotiating skills.: Negotiates with providers including medical groups, IPAs, hospitals, mental health providers, and ancillary services. Drafts contracts and communication to both legal department and contracted entities. Identifies, plans, and develops network needs for expansion in both existing and additional service areas. Actively recruits providers and facilities within a designated territory. Analyzes existing medical group and hospital/facility rate structures to ensure competitive market rates. Provides network servicing, in-service training, visits to provider groups, and provider relations problem resolution, focusing on contract issues. Works with the Member Services Department in resolution of claims issues, training, and response to provider questions and problems. Provides administrative, management, and operational oversight to the network. Develops, monitors, and oversees implementation of strategic and operational plans specific to network activities. Monitors the performance of network activities and provides related timely reports. Designs and implements programs to maintain positive relationships between health plans, physicians, and providers. Responsible for hiring, developing, and managing a qualified management staff concerned with the development and maintenance of the health care network. Prepares, manages, and monitors the departmental budget.

Oversees all activities and directs staff of supervisory, professional, and support personnel concerned with planning, research, and development of new or improvement of existing products, processes, and services, and new ventures. Plans, develops, and establishes policies, procedures, and objectives of all the organization's research and development functions in accordance with organization's objectives. Typically reports to the Chief Executive Officer or Chief Operating Officer and the Research & Development Director reports directly to this position.: Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if strategic benefits are derived and if possible applications justify expenditures. Coordinates all contracting activities, including providing direction and education in the analysis, strategy, and implementation of all contracting activities to internal departments and external contracted partners. Supports, manages, and administers contracts for services and products across the organization. : Sources contract opportunities and negotiates and implements new contracts. Advises on contractual rights, obligations, and legal issues. Analyzes contract information for terms and conditions, key strategic information, and financial opportunity. Requests or approves amendments to or extensions of contracts. Oversees the execution of requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for qualification (RFQs), and invitations to bid (ITBs). Develops, implements, and enforces supplier and outsourcer guidelines and service level agreements. Conducts regular site visits to observe and analyze contract performance, including administrative competence, provider adherence to established standards, verification that services billed were delivered according to contract, efficiency of program activities, and achievement of contracted outcomes. Performs analyses and advises on responses to funding proposals. Reviews provider reimbursement requests for compliance with contracted budgets and approves payment. Investigates provider and/or consumer complaints related to contracted services and programs.

Research & Development Manager (Non-Technical)

Manages research and development staff and programs with improvement and cost reduction ideas and the introduction of products, processes, and services. Recommends potential of new, or ways to improve existing products, processes, and services. Research is not highly technical in nature and does not require advanced studies in engineering, science, or math. Typically reports to the Research & Development Director and has the Research & Development Supervisor reporting to this position.: Researches products, processes, and/or services of comparable competitors. Reviews and evaluates research results and makes appropriate recommendations to management. Keeps management informed on progress of projects. Develops and monitors project budgets and schedules. Controls research expenditures within approved budget limitations. Reviews and evaluates research results. Prepares reports on progress and recommends the addition, expansion, or discontinuance of projects or programs. May recruit, hire, and train department staff, evaluate staff performance, and develop goals and objectives for staff.

Research & Development Manager (Technical)

Manages, coordinates, and provides strategic planning of activities concerned with research and development of new or improved concepts, ideas, basic data on, and applications for organization's products, services, or ideologies including engineering research and development programs. Manages the research, identification, evaluation, and initial development of new products or services. Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals, such as objective or purpose of projects, applications that can be utilized from findings, cost of projects, and equipment and manpower requirements. Typically reports to the Research & Development Director and has Research & Development Supervisor reporting to this position.: Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures. Submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and recommends allocation of funds from department budget. Monitors projects, such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences in order to inform management of current status of each project. Reports revenue and profitability to upper management. Keeps current on competitors' products and services. May be responsible for the overall implementation of new products or services and/or improvement of existing products or services. May engage market research firms to perform studies.
