Assists in planning, controlling, and administering the department budget. Ensures that materials and graphic arts services are used effectively. Researches industry publications and trends of competitors.

Package Design Supervisor

Supervises and coordinates activities related to the new or redesign of packages within product manufacturing. Coordinates efforts with consultants, providers, and suppliers. Typically reports to Package Design Manager and may have Package Designers reporting to this position.: Assists in researching industry publications and trends of competitors. Establishes or adjusts work procedures or projects to meet required deadlines. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.

Engineering Design Manager

Manages and coordinates activities of employees engaged in the design and development of new or modified products. Coordinates the creation of blueprints and other engineering data. Plans and establishes engineering schedules and follows up performance against estimates. The manager level is typically the second level of management and may have first level supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller organizations the manager may be a first level supervisor.: Ensures accuracy of drawings and adherence to established organizational standards and objectives. Oversees compilation of cost control and statistical data. Manages development of material selection standards. Approves process specification and design standards. Recommends new policies or procedures as necessary. Prepares and controls departmental annual budget. Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, review and approval of job descriptions and salary classifications, and selection and placement of personnel.

Conducts engineering studies on design for products, associated and subsystems components, and structures. Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to design. Typically requires an engineering degree in field of specialty. Positions covered by this definition are characterized by the inclusion of work that requires an understanding of both theories and principles. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Applies engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing, machines, equipment, or processes. Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products, such as engines, equipment, machines, associated and subsystems components, and structures. Uses computer-assisted engineering software and equipment. Analyzes data to determine feasibility of product proposal. Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs that can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design. Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors. Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design. Prepares or directs preparations of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics. Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system. Plans and develops experimental test programs. Prevents or eliminates defects in new or existing products. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required. Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses. Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technological changes and developments in industry. Design engineering personnel are classified according to discipline.
