Hardware Design Director

Software Design Director

Plans, schedules, and directs design of programs to process data and solve problems by use of computers. Consults with managerial and systems analysis personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and determine extent of programming and coding required. Assigns, coordinates, and reviews work of programming personnel. This position typically reports to the IT Top Officer and manager-level personnel normally report to it.: Designs programs from workflow charts or diagrams, considering factors, such as computer storage capacity and speed, extent of peripheral equipment, and intended use of output data. Converts workflow charts to language that can be processed by computer. Enters program codes into computer. Enters test data into computer. Analyzes test runs on computer to correct or direct correction of coded program and input data. Revises or directs revision of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Compiles documentation of program development and subsequent revisions. Trains subordinates in programming and program coding. Prescribes standards for terms and symbols used to simplify interpretation of programs. Collaborates with computer manufacturers and other users to develop new programming methods. Prepares records and reports.

Package Design Director

Directs, plans, regulates, and controls activities related to the development and design of packages for the company's finished products, ensuring a combination of optimum marketing display and protection of the product. Interacts with design staff, marketing, manufacturing, graphics, shipping, and transportation personnel to develop optimum package design. Typically reports to a top executive and manager level personnel report to this position.: Researches industry publications and trends of competitors. Works with suppliers and purchasing management to select the most appropriate materials for use. Establishes, analyzes, and coordinates department budget estimates and controls expenditures to administer approved budget. Monitors use of materials and graphic arts services. Consults with designated company personnel to disseminate information necessitating changes in documents or directives needed to implement design changes.

Tool Design Supervisor

Supervises tool designers who design broaches, milling-machine cutters, drills, and other single- or multiple-edged cutting tools, and related jigs, dies, and fixtures for production or experimental use in metalworking. Studies schedules and estimates time requirements for completion of job assignments, and establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders, and assigns duties. Maintains time and production records. : Recommends measures to improve production methods, performance and quality, and suggests changes in working conditions. Studies specifications and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and costs of tools. Interprets company policies and enforces regulations. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet department deadlines. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. May train new workers. May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials. May confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments or to resolve grievances.

Typically reports to engineering manager level in the organization and is a first line supervisor.: Organizes and coordinates various sections of engineering.
