Director Major or Capital Gifts

Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates ongoing and special project funding programs for museum, zoo, public broadcasting station, or similar institution: prepares statement of planned activities and enlists support from members of institution staff and volunteer organizations. Develops public relations materials to enhance institution image and promote fund raising program. Identifies potential contributors to special project funds and supporters of institution ongoing operations through examination of past records, individual and corporate contracts, and knowledge of community. Plans and coordinates fund drives for special projects. Organizes direct mail campaign to reach other potential contributors. Plans and coordinates benefit events, such as banquets, balls, or auctions. Organizes solicitation drives for pledges of ongoing support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Informs potential contributors of special needs of institution, and encourages individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish or contribute to special funds through endowments, trusts, donations of gifts-in-kind, or bequests, conferring with attorneys to establish methods of transferring funds to benefit both donors and institution. Researches public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify other sources of funding for research, community service, or other projects.

Attorney Director Legal

Directs and coordinates the organization's legal staff and activities. Coordinates the development, revision, and compliance of the organization's policies and procedures with all applicable laws and regulations. Provides management with advice and counsel concerning laws impacting the organization's functional areas. Writes/reviews contracts, files for patents and copyrights, files and responds to lawsuits, and recommends outside counsel when necessary. A graduate degree from an accredited law school is required to carry out the responsibilities at this level.: Develops budget recommendations to support systematically planned programs of legal actions or defenses, and establishes controls to assure optimum deployment of resources within approved budgets. Keeps fully informed of all new developments in corporate legal matters and keeps all levels of management informed of applicable new laws and of the progress and results of court cases. May try large, complex cases.

Attorney Legal Manager

Manages the activities of the legal staff. Assists upper management in providing legal advice and counsel on handling litigation and other legal matters involving the company. Assists in developing and modifying policies and procedures to conform to legal requirements. Drafts, reviews, or revises various company documents. Participates in complex legal projects. A graduate degree from an accredited law school is required to carry out the responsibilities at this level. Typically reports to a director and may have supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller companies the manager may be the first level supervisor over subordinate staff.: Provides department budget recommendations and assures optimum deployment of resources within approved budgets. Keeps fully informed of all new developments in corporate legal matters, and keeps all levels of management informed of applicable new laws and of the progress and results of court cases. As required, supplements in-house legal staff by carefully selected outside legal assistance, and monitors and evaluates their activities.

Attorney Legal Supervisor

Supervises activities of legal staff. Provides management with guidance in identifying the critical problems to which the application of legal principals to yield the greatest opportunities for minimizing risks and maximizing profits. A graduate degree from an accredited law school is required to carry out the responsibilities at this level. This position typically reports to a manager and is the first level of supervision in the organization.: Develops budget recommendations to support systematically planned programs of legal actions or defenses, and establishes controls to assure optimum deployment of resource within approved budgets. Keeps fully informed of all new developments in corporate legal matters and keeps all levels of management informed of applicable new laws and of the progress and results of court cases. Develops a professionally competent staff of business-oriented legal and paralegal generalists and specialists. As required, supplements in-house legal work by carefully selected outside legal assistance, and monitors and evaluates their activities.

Attorney Patent

Prepares, prosecutes, and enforces patent and trademark protection on behalf of individual clients or companies. Advises clients, such as inventors, investors, and manufacturers, concerning patentability of inventions, infringement of patents, validity of patents, and similar items. Prepares applications for patents and presents applications to Patent Office. Prosecutes or defends clients in patent infringement litigations. A graduate degree from an accredited law school, as well as membership in a State bar and Patent bar association, is typically required to carry out the responsibilities for this position.: May specialize in protecting trademarks and copyrights in foreign countries.

Attorney Tax

Advises individuals, business concerns, and other organizations concerning income, estate, gift, excise, property, and other Federal, State, local, and foreign taxes. Prepares opinions on tax liability resulting from prospective and past transactions. Represents clients in tax litigation. A graduate degree from an accredited law school and membership to a State bar association is typically required to carry our responsibilities at this level.: Interprets tax laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.

Corporate Attorney

Performs consultation, advisory, and/or trial work, and carries out the legal processes necessary to effect the rights, privileges, and obligations of the organization. Studies Constitution, statues, decisions, and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies. Gathers evidence and information for management decision making. Prepares and reviews various legal instruments and documents, such as contracts, leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate, etc. Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuit. Examines material, such as advertisements, publications, etc., for legal implications, advising officials of proposed legislation that might affect the organization. Applies for copyrights or registration of the organization's products, processes, devices, and trademarks, advising whether to initiate or defend law suits. Conducts pretrial preparations and defends the organization in lawsuits. Advises officials on tax matters, government regulations, and/or legal rights. Represents the company before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of the government. Requires completion of law school with an LLB degree or JD degree and admission to the bar.: Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses. Advises concerning transactions of business involving internal affairs, stockholders, directors, officers, and corporate relations with general public. May act as agent of the organization in various transactions. May confer with colleagues with specialty in areas of law to establish and verify basis for legal personnel. May prepare business contacts, pay taxes, settle labor disputes, and administer other legal matters. May teach college courses in law. May apply for patents. May specialize in specific phase of law.

Insurance Attorney

Advises management of insurance company on legality of insurance transactions: studies court decisions, and recommends changes in wording of insurance policies to conform with law or to protect company from unwarranted claims. Advises claims department personnel of legality of claims filed on company to ensure against undue payments. Advises personnel engaged in drawing up of legal documents, such as insurance contracts and release papers. May specialize in one phase of legal work, such as claims or contracts.

Title Attorney

Examines abstracts of titles, leases, contracts, and other legal documents to determine ownership of land, and gas, oil, and mineral rights: draws up legal documents covering purchase and sale of land, and oil, gas, and mineral rights, drafts deeds and affidavits, and presents other evidence to meet legal requirements of documents. Examines instruments and opinions prepared by other attorneys and advises officials of organization as to legal requirements in connection with titles. Searches for and examines public records and writes opinions on titles. Prepares cases for trial and tries or assists in trial of lawsuits involving titles to land, and gas, oil, and mineral rights.
