Medical Clinical Specialist

Interprets and implements quality assurance standards in clinical area or hospital to ensure quality care to patients. Ensures appropriate care is provided to patients. Reviews quality assurance standards, studies existing policies and procedures, and interviews personnel and patients to evaluate effectiveness of quality assurance program. May report to Quality Assurance Head Hospital or a similar high-level position. May oversee personnel engaged in quality assurance review of medical records.

OB/GYN Clinical Nurse

Provides professional nursing care for patients in the obstetrical and gynecological departments. Performs total patient care in the labor room, delivery room, postpartum unit, and nursery. Requires RN license.: Administers prescribed medications. Maintains patients' medical records. Assists physician during treatments, examinations, and surgical procedures. Evaluates, plans, and documents the delivery room nursing process as needed.

May collaborate with Psychiatrist and other specialists in developing treatment programs for patients. May instruct and direct students serving psychological internships in hospitals and clinics. May develop experimental designs and conduct research in the fields of personality development and adjustment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. May serve as a consultant to industrial, social, educational, welfare, and other agencies on individual cases or in evaluation, planning, and development of mental health programs. May specialize in behavior problems and therapy, crime and delinquency, group therapy, individual diagnosis and therapy, mental deficiency, objective tests, projective techniques, or speech pathology.

Clinical Therapist

Counsels individuals or groups regarding psychological or emotional problems, such as stress, substance abuse, or family situations, using evaluative techniques, and develops and implements therapeutic treatment plans in medical setting. Consults with medical doctor or other specialists concerning treatment plans and amends plans as directed. Typically requires advanced study in field of specialty.: Discusses progress toward goals with client, such as controlling weight, stress, or substance abuse. Conducts relaxation exercises, peer counseling groups, and family counseling during clinical therapy sessions. Interviews patient to obtain information concerning medical history or other pertinent information. Observes client to detect indications of abnormal physical or mental behavior. Selects and administers various tests, such as psychological tests, personality inventories, and intelligence quotient tests, to identify behavioral or personality traits and intelligence levels, and records results. Reviews results of tests to evaluate client needs. Plans and administers therapeutic treatment, such as behavior modification and stress management therapy, using biofeedback equipment, to assist patient in controlling disorders and other problems. Changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by client reactions. Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling. May conduct research in treatment and test validation. May develop evaluative studies of therapy and therapy outcome.

Clinical Research Nurse

Coordinates and participates in clinical research studies conducted by physicians. Plans, coordinates, evaluates and manages nursing care of participants and data for assigned research projects. Follows study-specific protocol guidelines and communicates and interacts with investigators, hospital staff, sponsoring agencies, and others to effectively perform clinical research and coordinate research activities. : Ensures that patient treatment provided by primary care personnel and data collected adhere to study protocol. Screens patients for inclusion in study based on pre-determined criteria. Maintains inventory of unique drugs and supplies needed for study. Provides basic patient care and treatment as requested by Physician. Obtains patient blood samples, cultures, tissues, and other specimens for laboratory analysis. Initiates drug orders and laboratory studies for patients based on standing protocol orders. Provides direction and training to nursing staff on techniques for mixing and administering new drugs and other forms of patient care and treatment unique to the study being conducted. Maintains interface with nursing and other professional staff to interpret protocol application for patient and to answer questions about the study in progress. Confers with patient and attending Physician to explain purpose of study and obtain written consent for patient to participate. Explains diagnostic procedures and method of treatment to alleviate patient and family concern. Collects information and data from patient charts and records, patient interviews, and other sources. Evaluates and interprets collected data and prepares protocol summary forms, statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Confers with Physician in developing plans and protocols for clinical research studies and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. Reviews journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous studies to aid in the planning of new studies.

Clinical Nutrition Manager

Manages, plans, and coordinates the clinical nutrition services function and supervises staff to provide nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education, and counseling of hospitalized patients and outpatients in a variety of settings. Requires a degree in nutrition and registration with the American Dietetic Association as a Clinical Dietitian and five years of experience as a Clinical Dietitian. : Hires, develops, and motivates a qualified clinical nutrition staff. Prepares and monitors the departmental budget. Oversees the preparation and distribution of appropriate reports and analyses for nutrition services. Consults with physicians and other health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients. Ensures ongoing patient care plans, patient education, and diet instruction. Inspects meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and for standards of palatability and appearance. Develops, implements, and maintains department policies and procedures. Plans and coordinates work schedules and daily work load of the clinical nutrition staff. May provide nutrition education programs to outpatient groups. May teach nutrition and diet therapy to medical students and hospital personnel.

Crop-Research Scientist

Conducts experiments or investigations in field-crop problems and develops new methods of growing crops to secure more efficient production, higher yield, and improved quality. Studies way to increase crop productivity, nutritional value, and quality of seed. Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in field of specialty. Develops methods for control of noxious weeds, crop diseases, and insect pests. May specialize in specific field crop, group of field crops, or specific agronomic problem.

Chemist Clinical

Studies the complex chemistry of life and chemical composition of living things. Analyzes complex chemical combinations and reactions involved in metabolism, reproduction, growth, and heredity. Conducts research to determine action of substances on tissues and vital processes of living organisms. Requires advanced studies in the field of biochemistry.: Studies chemical processes of living organisms. Conducts research to determine action of foods, drugs, serums, hormones, and other substances on tissues and vital processes of living organisms. Isolates, analyzes, and identifies hormones, vitamins, allergens, minerals, and enzymes and determines effects on body functions. Examines chemical aspects of formation of antibodies, and conducts research into chemistry of cells and blood corpuscles. Studies chemistry of living processes, such as mechanisms of development of normal and abnormal cells, breathing and digestion, and of living energy changes, such as growth, aging, and death. May specialize in particular area or field of work. May clean, purify, refine, and otherwise prepare pharmaceutical compounds for commercial distribution and develop new drugs and medications.

Scientist Environmental

Conducts research to identify and abate or eliminate sources of pollutants that affect people, wildlife, and their environments. Analyzes and reports measurements and observations of air, water, soil, and other sources to make recommendations on how best to clean and preserve the environment. Designs and monitors waste disposal sites, preserves water supplies, and reclaims contaminated land and water. Usual requirement is minimum of a bachelor's degree in the field of scientific and/or engineering disciplines. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Plans and conducts environmental research studies to develop methods or theories of abating or controlling sources of environmental pollutants, utilizing knowledge of principles and concepts of various scientific and engineering disciplines. Requires advanced study in the field of research in environmental sciences. Determines data collection methods to be employed in research projects and surveys. Plans and develops research models, using knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and physical science concepts and approaches. Identifies and analyzes sources of pollution to determine their effects. Collects and synthesizes data derived from pollution emission measurements, atmospheric monitoring, meteorological and mineralogical information, and soil or water samples. Prepares graphs, charts, and statistical models from synthesized data, using knowledge of mathematical, statistical, and engineering analysis techniques. Analyzes data to assess pollution problems, establishes standards, and develops approaches for control of pollution.
