Forensic Psychologist

Conducts a variety of psychodiagnostic examinations ordered by the courts to provide forensic assessment to determine competency to stand trial, or to evaluate other mental health conditions that could affect legal proceedings. Provides consultation to court officials regarding the psychological state of individuals. Appears in courts of law as an expert witness, attesting to findings regarding an individual's competency to stand trial or other forensic issues. Reviews psychological information relative to legal requirements for determination of competency to stand trial for an alleged illegal act, formulates opinion, and makes diagnosis.: Prepares written reports for the courts detailing psychological findings upon which conclusions and recommendations are based. Interviews subject matter experts, family members of the accused, witnesses, police officers, and others to assist in reaching conclusions regarding the psychological condition of the accused at the time of the offense. Maintains current knowledge of laws and acts that affect the field of forensic psychology. Conducts research regarding specific psychological conditions and their forensic relationship and publishes findings in scientific journals. Presents information regarding forensic psychology to various groups and professional associations. Formulates treatment plans, screens referrals for psychological testing, conducts psychological testing, and provides consultation and training to other staff for a caseload of patients assigned to a forensic psychiatry center. Provides cognitive, behaviorally oriented, or other types of individual therapy to patients. Provides expert witness testimony in courts of law as a Certified Consulting Forensic Examiner. Conducts psychological assessments to determine criminal responsibility for illegal acts.

Abnormal Psychologist

Studies the science of abnormal behavior in order to describe, predict, explain, and change abnormal patterns of functioning. Studies, in clinical psychology, the nature of psychopathology, its causes, and its treatments. Determines if patients have maladaptive behavior, either to one's self or to society. Provides individual and group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. Collects data about individuals through use of interviews, case history, and observational techniques. : Selects and interprets psychological tests designed to assess individual's intelligence, aptitudes, abilities, and interests, applying knowledge of statistical analysis. Evaluates data to assist in diagnosing possible disorders, such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, schizophrenia, delusional disorders, and sexual disorders. Evaluates data to identify causes of problem of individuals and to determine advisability of counseling or referral to other specialists or institutions. Conducts counseling or therapeutic interviews to assist individual to gain insight into personal problems, define goals, and plan action reflecting interests, abilities, and needs. Provides occupational, educational, and other information to enable individual to formulate realistic educational and vocational plans. Follows up results of counseling to determine reliability and validity of treatment used. May engage in research to develop and improve diagnostic and counseling techniques. May administer and score psychological tests.

Counseling Psychologist

Provides individual and group counseling services in universities and colleges, schools, clinics, rehabilitation centers, Veterans Administration hospitals, and industry to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. OB/GYN Clinical Nurse

Provides professional nursing care for patients in the obstetrical and gynecological departments. Performs total patient care in the labor room, delivery room, postpartum unit, and nursery. Industrial Psychologist

Develops and applies psychological research, techniques, and methods to the workplace so as to improve productivity and quality of work life. Observes details of work and interviews workers and supervisors to establish physical, mental, educational, and other job requirements. Conducts applicant screening, training and development, counseling, and organizational development and analysis. May also involve research on personnel administration, management, and marketing problems. Develops interview techniques, rating scales, and psychological tests to assess skills, abilities, aptitudes, and interests as aids in selection, placement, and promotion. Chemist Clinical

May collaborate with Psychiatrist and other specialists in developing treatment programs for patients. May instruct and direct students serving psychological internships in hospitals and clinics. May develop experimental designs and conduct research in the fields of personality development and adjustment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. May serve as a consultant to industrial, social, educational, welfare, and other agencies on individual cases or in evaluation, planning, and development of mental health programs. May specialize in behavior problems and therapy, crime and delinquency, group therapy, individual diagnosis and therapy, mental deficiency, objective tests, projective techniques, or speech pathology.
