Nursing Skilled Nursing Facility Director

Directs administrative and clinical functions provided by a skilled nursing facility or a division of a skilled nursing facility.: This position requires license as a Registered Nurse with five years of clinical nursing experience in a skilled nursing facility. Must be skilled to work with a wide range of staff as part of an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Performs in a leadership capacity for clinical practice, supervision, teaching, and research. Coordinates activities of the nursing specialty units under management with other patient care units. Provides oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating standards of clinical practice. Assists in reviewing and making recommendations on policy issues regarding clinical practice within specific nursing disciplines within the organization. Identifies problem areas in areas of responsibility and takes corrective action. Manages daily operations and budget. Develops and coordinates plans and policies, resources, and goals for the department. Ensures compliance with nursing care standards and applicable laws, regulations, and/or institution rules, standards and guidelines. Hires, trains and motivates a competent nursing staff.

Skilled Nursing Certified Nursing Assistant

Assists nurses by performing various basic care activities related to services essential to caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients in a skilled nursing facility. Provides simple or uncomplicated patient care in a skilled nursing facility by performing the following functions for patients: dressing, grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, taking vital signs, providing oral care, providing nail care, providing catheter care, answering call lights, assisting patients in wheel chairs, transporting patients, turning bedridden patients, reporting patient changes, filling linens, and taking out trash. This position typically requires completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program.: Assists nurses by performing various basic care activities related to services essential to caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients in a skilled nursing facility. Provides simple or uncomplicated patient care in a skilled nursing facility by performing the following functions for patients: dressing, grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, taking vital signs, providing oral care, providing nail care, providing catheter care, answering call lights, assisting patients in wheel chairs, transporting patients, turning bedridden patients, reporting patient changes, and filling linens. This position typically requires completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program. Promptly answers patient call bells. Bathes and dresses bed patients, combs hair, and otherwise attends to their comfort and personal appearance. Cleans room and changes bed linen. Takes and records temperature, pulse, and respiration rate. Gives medication as directed by Physician or Nurse and makes notation of amount and time given. Gives enemas, douches, massages, and alcohol rubs. Applies hot and cold compresses and hot water bottles. Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Observes patients for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel. Prepares food trays, feeds patients, and records food and liquid intake and output. May give injections.

CNA

Assists nurses by performing various basic care activities related to services essential to caring for the personal needs and comfort of patient. Functions include, but are not limited to, dressing, grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, taking vital signs, oral care, nail care, catheter care, answering call lights, assisting patients in wheel chairs, transporting, turning bedridden patients, reporting patient changes, filling linens, and taking out trash. Training for certification may vary, depending on the program, but typically consists of 200 hours of classroom and clinical hours. Functions may not exceed Standards of Practice as accorded by certification.: Provides simple or uncomplicated patient care. Bathes and dresses bed patients, combs hair, and otherwise attends to their comfort and personal appearance. Cleans room and changes bed linen. Takes and records temperature, pulse, and respiration rate. Gives medication as directed by Physician or Nurse and makes notation of amount and time given. Gives enemas, douches, massages, and alcohol rubs. Applies hot and cold compresses and hot water bottles. Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave. Prepares food trays, feeds patients, and records food and liquid intake and output. Cooks, washes, cleans, and does other housekeeping duties in private home. May give injections. May care for infants and small children in private home.

Nursing Manager

Directs or assists in directing activities of nursing staff and activities in nursing services, such as obstetrics, pediatrics, or surgery, or for two or more patient-care units, to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and hospital administrative procedures. Coordinates activities with other patient care units. Second highest level position in nursing services. May have nursing supervisor or head nurses reporting to this position. Requires RN license along with clinical and supervisory experience. May report to Top Nursing Executive or a similar high-level position.: Consults with Top Nursing Executive on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for unit staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs. Assists in formulating budget. Engages in studies and investigations related to improving nursing care.

Certified Nurse Aide Long-Term Care

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or LPN, provides direct patient care to patients consistent with nursing aide program preparation within a long-term care facility.: Prepares patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required. Obtains and records patient data for medical records noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected. Administers treatment and personal care procedures to patients to include feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination. Provides such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients. Assists physician and nurses with physical examinations by helping position patients, changing non-sterile dressing and weighing patients. Notes and reports any changes in patient's condition. Takes and records vital signs, records input and output, applies ice bags, and administers enemas. Turns and positions patients, feeds patients as necessary, and provides patients with fresh drinking water. Performs finger sticks for blood glucose testing with appropriate training. Assists with admission, discharge, and transportation of patients. This position requires completion of a nurse’s aide program and certification.

Nursing Supervisor

Supervises, directs, and coordinates, nursing activities and personnel in one or more patient care units. Evaluates nursing activities to ensure patient care, staff relations, and efficiency of service. Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and that treatment administered in accordance with physician's instructions. Requires RN license and nursing experience.: Inspects rooms and wards for cleanliness and comfort. Keeps informed of special orders concerning patients. Participates in orientation and training of personnel. Orders, or directs ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics. Investigates and resolves complaints, or refers unusual problems to superior. Participates in training of unit staff.

Nursing Shift Supervisor

Plans, organizes, and directs activities for the duration of one shift of hospital nursing unit. Observes techniques of, and services rendered by, nursing staff or provides nursing care for patients in unit. Demonstrates techniques for nursing students and/or new personnel to provide training and direction. Requires RN license.: Identifies problem areas in nursing unit, such as understaffing, absenteeism, and wastefulness, and takes corrective action. Monitors use of supplies and equipment to avoid abuses and requisitions supplies. Responds to various departments requesting emergency assistance and assigns staff accordingly during emergencies. Prepares work schedule and assigns duties to nursing staff in unit for efficient use of personnel.

Nursing Home Director

Administers, directs, and coordinates all activities of the nursing home. Typically reports to the hospital CEO and has lower level supervisors reporting to this position.: Plans all activities of the nursing home to ensure proper health care services to residents. Maintains direct patient contact, reviews patient condition reports and health care plans. Evaluates nursing care and implements changes for improvement. Prepares and reports on the activities of the unit for review by hospital administration.

Respiratory Therapist Certified

Provides patient assessment, treatment, management and preventive care to patients with cardiopulmonary problems.: Practicing under the direction of a physician, respiratory therapists assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages. Administers aerosol medications and treatments to patients for inhalation, and positions patients to assist in breathing and prevent lung obstruction. Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician's orders. Completion of a two year accredited entry-level respiratory therapy program and certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care are requirements for this position. Uses equipment such as ventilators to support respiration and maintain patient’s oxygen supply. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Performs chest physiotherapy on patient to remove mucus from their lungs and make it easier for them to breathe and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. Assists in the performance of diagnostic testing by performing pulmonary function tests to be used by physician in diagnosis of case. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy. Consults with physician in event of adverse reactions. Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Provides patient education and support for patients suffering from chronic lung disease.

Certified Medication Technician

Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under supervision of General Duty Nurse. Verifies identity of patient receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.: Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures. Takes vital signs or observes patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions. Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered. Gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments. May receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to patient. May record and restock medication inventories.
