Assist elderly or disabled adults with daily living activities at the person's home or in a daytime non-residential facility. Duties performed at a place of residence may include keeping house (making beds, doing laundry, washing dishes) and preparing meals. May provide meals and supervised activities at non-residential care facilities. May advise families, the elderly, and disabled on such things as nutrition, cleanliness, and household utilities.

Certified Medication Aide (CMA)

Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. Perform duties, such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, or move patients, or change linens. Exclude 'Home Health Aides' (31-1011) and 'Psychiatric Aides' (31-1013).

Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under supervision of General Duty Nurse. Verifies identity of patient receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms or records.: Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures. Takes vital signs or observes patient to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions. Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered. Gives direct patient care, such as bathing, dressing, and feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments. May receive supply of ordered medications and apportion, mix, or assemble drugs for administration to patient. May record and restock medication inventories.

Technician Certified Medication

Certified Pharmacy Technician

Assists the pharmacist in dispensing, delivery and retrieval of medications. May assist Pharmacist in hospital, clinic, home care, long-term care, mail order, managed care or retail pharmacy performing a variety of duties. This position may also be found in research, education and the pharmaceutical industry.: Receives and screens prescription medication orders for completeness and accuracy. Mixes pharmaceutical preparations using proper aseptic techniques, fills bottles or other container with prescribed medications, and types labels for bottles, using proper packaging techniques. Collects, organizes and evaluates information to assist pharmacists in serving patients. Prepares and distributes medications in a variety of health system settings. Provides drug information and education, as needed. Receives and stores incoming supplies and assists in stocking shelves, checking prices and maintaining inventory. Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records. Collects payment or initiates billing for pharmacy services and goods. Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods. Types and files reports, and completes forms as directed. This position typically requires completion of a pharmacy technician training program and current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

Respiratory Therapist Certified

Provides patient assessment, treatment, management and preventive care to patients with cardiopulmonary problems.: Practicing under the direction of a physician, respiratory therapists assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages. Administers aerosol medications and treatments to patients for inhalation, and positions patients to assist in breathing and prevent lung obstruction. Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician's orders. Completion of a two year accredited entry-level respiratory therapy program and certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care are requirements for this position. Uses equipment such as ventilators to support respiration and maintain patient’s oxygen supply. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Performs chest physiotherapy on patient to remove mucus from their lungs and make it easier for them to breathe and assists patient in performing breathing exercises. Assists in the performance of diagnostic testing by performing pulmonary function tests to be used by physician in diagnosis of case. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy. Consults with physician in event of adverse reactions. Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. Provides patient education and support for patients suffering from chronic lung disease.

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Provides occupational therapy services to patients to include treatment, standardized assessment data and documentation under the supervision of an occupational therapist. This position requires an Associate's degree in an occupational therapy assistant program required and certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.: Demonstrates and articulates sound clinical reasoning in treatment planning, implementation and monitoring of patient progress. Assists in evaluation of clients' daily living skills and capacities to determine extent of abilities and limitations. Recognizes and reports to therapist when standard patient protocols or treatment plans need modification to meet individual patient needs. Administers therapy in the context of the patient's age, total needs perspective and environment. Performs age appropriate advanced competency skills in area of practice and relative to individual patient's problems. Consistently reports to therapist patient progress/status to allow for updated of goals and modification of treatment program. Recommends discharge of patient at point of optimal benefit of treatment, making appropriate provision for continuing services, if needed. Assists in planning and implementing educational, vocational, and recreational programs and activities established by registered Occupational Therapist, designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance task performances, diminish or correct pathology, and to promote and maintain health and self-sufficiency. Fabricates splints and other assistant devices. Carries out general activity program for individuals or groups. Assists in instructing patient and family in home programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment. Prepares work materials, assists in maintenance of equipment, and orders supplies. This position requires an Associate's degree in an occupational therapy assistant program required and certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. May be responsible for maintaining observed information in client records and preparing reports. May teach basic living skills to institutionalized, mentally retarded adults. May assist Educational Specialist or Clinical Psychologist in administering situational or diagnostic tests to measure client's abilities or progress.

Skilled Nursing Certified Nursing Assistant

Assists nurses by performing various basic care activities related to services essential to caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients in a skilled nursing facility. Provides simple or uncomplicated patient care in a skilled nursing facility by performing the following functions for patients: dressing, grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, taking vital signs, providing oral care, providing nail care, providing catheter care, answering call lights, assisting patients in wheel chairs, transporting patients, turning bedridden patients, reporting patient changes, filling linens, and taking out trash. This position typically requires completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program.: Assists nurses by performing various basic care activities related to services essential to caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients in a skilled nursing facility. Provides simple or uncomplicated patient care in a skilled nursing facility by performing the following functions for patients: dressing, grooming, bathing, feeding, toileting, taking vital signs, providing oral care, providing nail care, providing catheter care, answering call lights, assisting patients in wheel chairs, transporting patients, turning bedridden patients, reporting patient changes, and filling linens. This position typically requires completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Certification program. Promptly answers patient call bells. Bathes and dresses bed patients, combs hair, and otherwise attends to their comfort and personal appearance. Cleans room and changes bed linen. Takes and records temperature, pulse, and respiration rate. Gives medication as directed by Physician or Nurse and makes notation of amount and time given. Gives enemas, douches, massages, and alcohol rubs. Applies hot and cold compresses and hot water bottles. Sterilizes equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave and assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Observes patients for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel. Prepares food trays, feeds patients, and records food and liquid intake and output. May give injections.
