Critical Care Executive

Provides executive leadership for critical care operations.: Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates outcomes of the patient care strategic services in critical care units. Directs patient care services and ensures adequate staffing for the units. Develops strategic critical care initiatives and transforms initiatives into action plans. Performs regular data analysis of critical care census, quality data and operations cost reports to identify variances and their causes so that areas of focus may be identified and resources may be appropriately deployed. Works closely with the Medical Director to ensure that critical care services are provided in an efficient and effective manner. Provides oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system for developing, reviewing, approving and disseminating standards of clinical practice. Assists in reviewing and making recommendations on policy issues regarding clinical practice with appropriate discipline within the organization. Prepares and manages the departmental budget. Hires, develops and motivates a qualified critical care management staff. An advanced degree in a field of health or nursing is typically required for this position. The position typically requires strong clinical and quality improvement knowledge.

Critical Care Physician

Diagnoses and treats all aspects of acute and emergency care for the critically ill or injured patient.: Examines patient to determine medical problem, using physical findings, diagnostic images, laboratory test results, and patient's statements as diagnostic aids. Refers patient to surgeon or other specialist when need for further medical assistance is indicated. Provides direct clinical services for critically ill patients with multi-organ trauma or multi-system failure, according to established protocols. Obtains patient health histories and completes physical examinations. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explains the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient’s family, staff, and healthcare learners. Performs therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status. Documents patient preparation and response to procedure(s). Formulates and implements treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s). Documents all prescriptions in patient’s medical record. Assesses patient for change in status and institutes appropriate interventions. Initiates necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient. This position requires a licensed Medical Doctor with specialized training in critical care.

Medical Nurse Critical Care

Provides nursing care to Critical Care Unit patients in hospital or similar health care facility. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatments and examinations of patients. Requires RN license.: Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents. Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient. Lends psychological and emotional support. Answers questions and concerns and provides information to patients and their family members regarding patients' care and treatment.

Critical Care Unit Nurse
