Investigates financial rating of business, customer appeal for type of merchandise, and desirability of location for type of business or condition and location of investment property. Estimates cost of improving business or property and potential market value to determine resale value. Purchases business or property on speculative basis or on commission basis for client. Repairs, remodels, or redecorates building; purchases competitive merchandise; and installs sound management practices to improve value of property or business acquisition. Contacts prospective clients through newspaper advertisements or mailing lists. Describes to client selling points of property or business, emphasizing such factors as improvements made and profit potential. Sells business or property to buyer and makes arrangements for escrow and title change.

Business Editor

Perform variety of editorial duties, such as laying out, indexing, and revising content of written materials, in preparation for final publication. Include technical editors.

Business Banker

Buy and sell securities in investment and trading firms, or call upon businesses and individuals to sell financial services. Provide financial services, such as loan, tax, and securities counseling. May advise securities customers about such things as stocks, bonds, and market conditions.

Business Lawyer

Represent clients in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings, draw up legal documents, and manage or advise clients on legal transactions. May specialize in a single area or may practice broadly in many areas of law.

Originate and prepare written material, such as scripts, stories, advertisements, and other material. Exclude 'Public Relations Specialists' (27-3031) and 'Technical Writers' (27-3042).

Business Analyst

Plans and performs analysis of company functions, processes, and activities to improve computer-based business applications for the most effective use of money, materials, equipment, and people. Utilizes available computer systems resources and personnel to carry out analysis to support management's quest for performance improvement. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in a related field such as information technology, finance, computer science, mathematics, or business economics.: Analyzes information, forecasts, methods, schedules, systems, processes, and procedures to determine most useful business solutions for the company. Proposes alternative solutions to management as to courses of action that best meet the organization's goals. Duties are concerned with the design and improvement of computer-based business systems. Works closely with senior managers to identify and solve a variety of computer-based business system problems. Analyzes requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing business systems. Confers with personnel of organizational units involved to analyze current operational procedures and identify problems. Solicits from management symptoms of problem, formally defines the problem, breaks problem into component parts, and gathers information about each of these parts from a variety of sources. Selects the most appropriate analytical technique. Some studies may involve use of several techniques including simulation, linear and nonlinear programming, dynamic programming, queuing and other stochastic-process models, Markov decision processes, econometric methods, data envelopment analysis, neural networks, expert systems, decision analysis, and the analytic hierarchy process. Writes description of business needs, business program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer-based business systems. Reviews computer system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system. Studies existing computer-based business systems to evaluate effectiveness, and develops new systems to improve production or workflow as required.

Teach courses in business administration and management, such as accounting, finance, human resources, labor relations, marketing, and operations research. Include both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of both teaching and research.
