Substance Abuse Counselor

Counsels and aids individuals and families requiring assistance dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse. Formulates program for treatment and rehabilitation of client, using knowledge of drug and alcohol abuse problems and counseling and treatment techniques. Usually requires certification by State or other governing body.: Interviews clients, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to evaluate condition of client. Counsels clients individually and in group sessions to assist clients in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency. Counsels family members to assist family in dealing with and providing support for client. Refers client to other support services as needed, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services. Monitors condition of client to evaluate success of therapy, and adapts treatment as needed. Prepares and maintains reports and case histories. May formulate and conduct programs to promote prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. May prepare documents for presentation in court and accompany client to court as needed.

Residence Counselor

Evaluates students' abilities, interests, talents, and personality characteristics in order to develop appropriate academic and career goals. Provides individual and group guidance services relative to problems of scholastic, educational, and personal-social nature to students. Usual requirement is a minimum of a bachelor's degree in field of specialty. Excludes paraprofessional positions.: Suggests remedial or corrective actions and assists students in making better adjustments and in planning intelligent life goals. Plans and directs program to orient students and assists in their integration into scholastic life. Investigates reports of misconduct and attempts to resolve or eliminate causes of conflict. May initiate and conduct group conferences to plan and discuss programs and policies related to assignment of quarters, social and recreational activities, and dormitory living. May supervise dormitory activities. May interview all dormitory students to determine need for counseling.

EAP Counselor

Responsible for providing EAP services to companies under contract as well as internal employees.: Provides assessment, crisis intervention, short term counseling, and referral of employees. Interfaces with troubled employees. This position may provide services to specific companies under contract or may be dedicated to internal employees. Evaluates data gathered relative to the medical or psychiatric plan of treatment. Assists in the design and implementation of mechanisms for evaluating utilization of service, client satisfaction, supervisor satisfaction and program efficacy. Compiles statistical information for monthly and annual reports. An advanced degree in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology is typically required with three years of clinical experience. Current licensure in a particular discipline or CEAP is typically preferred. May conduct training sessions for supervisors and employees on a variety of topics including Employee Assistance Programs, chemical dependency/alcoholism and stress management.

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

Provides rehabilitative counseling and vocational rehabilitative services designed to help disabled individuals achieve a productive role in the community and reach independent living goals.: Provides rehabilitative counseling and vocational rehabilitative services designed to help disabled individuals achieve a productive role in the community and reach independent living goals. Interviews and evaluates disabled individuals, and confers with medical and professional personnel to determine type and degree of disability, eligibility for service, and feasibility of vocational rehabilitation. Implements and coordinates services for vocational rehabilitation patients. Determines suitable job or business consistent with applicant's interests, aptitudes, and physical, mental, and emotional limitations. Assists rehabilitation patient with personal adjustment throughout rehabilitation program. Aids applicant in obtaining medical and social services during training. Advises clients about education and training opportunities, careers, and job-finding skills. Promotes and develops job openings and places qualified applicant in an appropriate employment setting. Monitors progress, satisfaction and concerns in employment. Communicates with employers, vocational funding agencies and other agencies. This position typically requires a Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling. Documents services delivered, prepares clinical summaries, and maintains reports and case histories. May talk with employers or co-workers about accommodations that benefit the disabled individual.

Enrollment Counselor

Advises undergraduate and graduate students, including working adult students, regarding admissions and degree completion requirements, as well as enrolling students for a college or university's graduate, undergraduate, and/or certificate program. Develops academic plans for degree or certificate completion, following college or university’s guidelines and procedures.: Promotes the merits and distinction of the college or university to prospective students. Meets with students and ensures they are fully prepared to begin their education by familiarizing them with application procedures, class schedules, and college or university’s policies. Provides students with one-on-one customer service and administrative support. Acts as a personal coach, counselor, or advisor to help students qualify for admissions, select a degree, complete the enrollment process, and make a smooth transition into the classroom. Coordinates dissemination of information on courses offered and procedures students are required to follow to obtain admission. Works as part of a team with other counseling specialists to ensure each student’s success. Uses databases and software packages to enter, track, and maintain student information.

Assesses type and degree of disability of special needs children to aid in determining special programs and services required to meet educational needs. Reviews referrals of children having or suspected of having learning disabilities, mental retardation, behavioral disorders, or physical disabilities to determine evaluation procedure. Confers with school or other personnel and scrutinizes records to obtain additional information on nature and severity of disability. Observes student behavior and rates strength and weakness of factors such as rapport, motivation, cooperativeness, aggression, attention span, and task completion. : Selects, administers, and scores variety of preliminary tests to measure individual's aptitudes, educational achievements, perceptual motor skills, vision, and hearing. Reports findings for staff consideration in placement of children in educational programs. May test preschool children to detect learning disabilities and recommend follow-up activities, consultation, or services. May administer work-related tests and review records and other data to assess student vocational interests and abilities. May specialize in evaluating student readiness to transfer from special classes to regular classroom and in providing supportive services to regular classroom teacher.

Sales Counselor

Communicates sales and contractual information and closes contract sales to increase occupancy in various types of retirement communities. Builds and maintains positive and understanding relationships with prospective residents and their families, sets up and conducts tours, and helps them find the right living arrangements for their lifestyle. Obtains and maintains knowledge of competitors. Submits complete, timely, and accurate reports.
