e-Commerce Programmer

Writes and performs maintenance and modifications of existing programs for electronically transacted business. Plans, designs, develops, tests, edits, maintains, and documents processes and procedures according to user requirements. Meets with users to help them clarify their e-commerce goals. Typically requires a four-year college degree in field of specialty; however, some companies may accept equivalent education and experience combined. Depending on experience, may lead the work of less senior associates.: Must be proficient in one or more large-scale Relational Database Management systems, be able to program in one or more web development language, and be knowledgeable in existing web technologies. Updates and expands information to attract repeat users. Regularly evaluates and modifies programs as it seems appropriate. Converts project specifications into sequence of detailed instructions and logical steps for coding into language that is able to be processed by computer, applying knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages. Enters program codes into computer system. Enters commands to run and test programs. Determines if project requires creating a series of new programs or modifying existing programs that access data stored in databases. Observes display screen to detect syntax or logic errors during program test, or uses diagnostic software to detect errors. Replaces, deletes, or modifies codes to correct errors. Analyzes, reviews, and alters program to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Writes documentation to describe program development, logic coding, and corrections. Writes manuals to describe installation and operating procedures. Assists in solving operating problems. Reads manuals, periodicals, and technical reports.

Computer Programmer Lead

Leads in the adherence to planning, policies, practices, and personnel while overseeing a computer programming project or group of programmers. Assigns, coordinates, and reviews work of programming personnel. Usually reports to a supervisor of programming. Position is distinguished from a supervisor as position does not have full responsibility for recruiting, hiring, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions. Typically requires a four-year college degree in field of specialty; however, some companies may accept equivalent education and experience combined.: Plans, schedules, and directs preparation of programs to process data and solve problems by use of computers. Consults with managerial and systems analysis personnel to clarify program intent, identify problems, suggest changes, and determine extent of programming and coding required. Develops programs from workflow charts or diagrams, considering factors, such as computer storage capacity and speed, extent of peripheral equipment, and intended use of output data. Converts workflow charts to language that can be processed by computer. Enters program codes into computer. Enters test data into computer. Analyzes test runs on computer to correct or direct correction of coded program and input data. Revises or directs revision of existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Compiles documentation of program development and subsequent revisions. Trains subordinates in programming and program coding. Prescribes standards for terms and symbols used to simplify interpretation of programs. Collaborates with computer manufacturers and other users to develop new programming methods. Prepares records and reports.

Client Server Programmer

Develops, encodes, tests, documents, and installs complex programs to support an organization's client/server software systems. Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems.: Prepares complex program specifications and diagrams and develops coding logic flowcharts. Plans and accomplishes goals by required deadlines. Works at a highly-technical level on most phases of client/server programming activities. Serves as an expert in one or more client/server programs and advises others in the group. Interacts daily with users on various management levels. May lead and direct the work of others.

Access Coordinator Cable Television

Instructs trainees in use of equipment; and operates equipment, such as camera, sound mixer, and videotape deck, to film events, to copy/edit graphics, voice, and music onto videotape, for broadcast on cable television: determines time and day of class and plans outline of material to be covered. Distributes manuals, and instructs and demonstrates to trainees, care, setup and operation of equipment, such as tripods, microphones and portable camera. Prepares and administers written and practical tests to test trainees' knowledge. Determines equipment required to film event, and sets up and operates equipment, such as lights and portable camera to film event. Prepares script of filmed event. Loads videotape deck with videotape and instructs assistant to read script. Sets recording level, and records verbal description of event onto videotape, using videotaping equipment. Reviews videotape of filmed event, using videotaping equipment, to determine quality of video and color. Observes scales in video and color monitors and operates controls to adjust video and color levels. Enters written information about filmed event into graphic equipment. Plays musical selection, using stereo equipment, and adjusts controls to improve clarity and balance music. Sets inpoints and outpoints for graphics, voice, and music. Records graphics, voice, and music onto videotape, using audio/video equipment. Observes monitors to verify that video, voice, and music are synchronized during editing/copying process. Reviews assembled videotape, using videotaping equipment, to discern quality.

EDI Programmer Analyst

Provides analysis and support to internal and external customers relative to electronic exchange of data including enrollment, claims, payments, and clearinghouse activities. Typically requires an associate's degree in computer science, database programming skills, and previous experience in EDI programming.: Responds to inquiries from providers and internal departments. Monitors, activates, and operates EDI web and electronic claims processes, including data processing, technical support, systems operation, and documentation. Retrieves and analyzes vendor claims to ensure proper processing and payment. Develops and maintains documentation on completed projects. Facilitates, implements, and supports EDI transaction and code sets to meet HIPAA compliance, and supports other EDI relationships. Maintains internal programs for simplified user interface with systems. Assists in the documentation, development and maintenance of EDI procedure manuals, processing manuals, and internally created program documents. Provides coordination with regulatory agencies and outside vendors for proper claim retrieval, processing, and reporting. Executes, maintains, and monitors the daily process for state reporting purposes and claim reports to outside vendors. Monitors and maintains EDI system logs to correct any operational errors. Trains users on help functions of internally created programs and with commercially bought programs. May help customers with modem set-up, connection protocols, and related issues.

Programmer Numerical Control

Plans numerical control program to control contour-path machining of parts on automatic machine tools. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines include, but are not limited to, machining tools such as lathes, multi-axis spindles, and milling machines, but the functions formerly performed by human operators are performed by a computer-control module. CNC machines cut away material from a solid block of metal, plastic, glass, or other materials to form a finished part. Applies knowledge of the working properties of materials with CNC programming knowledge to design and carry out the operations needed to make machined products that meet precise specifications. Most companies require previous experience as a machinist or machine setter, operator, and tender along with apprenticeship programs, informally on the job, or training in secondary, vocational, or technical college. Requires knowledge of computers and electronics, computer numerical control, basics of programming, and computer-aided manufacturing.: Analyzes drawings, sketches, and design data of part to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selection of cutting tools, and machine speeds and feed rates, according to knowledge of machine shop processes, part specifications, and machine capabilities. Determines reference points and direction of machine cutting paths. Computes angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures, and outlines sequence of operations required to machine part. Prepares geometric layout on graph paper or using computer-assisted drafting software to show location of reference points and direction of cutting paths, using drafting instruments or computer. Writes instruction sheets and cutter lists to guide setup and operation of machine. Writes program of machine instructions to regulate movement of machine along cutting path. Compares computer printout with original program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions. Revises program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions. Observes operation of machine on trial run to prove programmed instructions.

Video Game Programmer

Writes code based on the video game design concept to create the software engine that controls the video game program, controls characters through artificial intelligence, and blends animation and sound. Builds architecture of new systems to specification and implements technical requirement features as required by the console manufacturers.: Advises programming and art team on platform specific requirements. Creates and maintains tools and utilities, as necessary, for other members of the development team. Assists in creation of submission materials as required by console manufacturers. Creates task and schedules estimates. Coordinates bug tracking process with Quality Assurance Department. Assists in the creation of the project technical design document (TDD). Ensures the delivery of project milestones to the stated criteria. Troubleshoots and solves technical design. Provides direction to the team with complex programming implementations. Maintains help library.

Quality Assurance Programmer

Evaluates, reviews, and tests new or modified software programs, including documentation, diagram, and flowchart, and software development procedures used to verify that programs function according to user requirements and conform to establishment guidelines. Conducts compatibility tests with vendor-provided programs. Runs in-depth testing, diagnoses problems, recommends solutions, and determines if program requirements have been met. Recommends program improvements or corrections to programmers. Typical requirement is a four-year college degree in field of specialty; however, some organizations may accept equivalent education and experience combined.: Writes, revises, and verifies quality standards, and test procedures for program design and product evaluation to attain quality of software economically and efficiently. Reviews computer operating log to identify program processing errors. Enters instructions into computer to test program for validity of results, accuracy, reliability, and conformance to establishment standards. Observes computer monitor screen during program test to detect error codes or interruption of program and corrects errors. Identifies differences between establishment standards and user applications, and suggests modifications to conform to standards. Sets up tests at request of user to locate and correct program operating error following installation of program. Monitors program performance after implementation to prevent reoccurrence of program operating problems and ensure efficiency of operation. Writes documentation to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction. May evaluate proposed software or software enhancement for feasibility. May develop utility program to test, track, and verify defects in software program. May write programs to create new procedures or modify existing procedures. May train software program users.

Programmer Engineer

Converts scientific, engineering, and other technical problem formulations to formats that can be processed by computer. Resolves symbolic formulations, prepares flowcharts and block diagrams, and encodes resultant equations for processing by applying extensive knowledge of branch of science, engineering, or advanced mathematics, such as differential equations or numerical analysis, and understanding of capabilities and limitations of computer. The level of responsibility for this position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a scientific or technical field from a college or university. This is a professional level non-supervisory position.: Confers with other engineering and technical personnel to resolve problems of intent, inaccuracy, or feasibility of computer processing. Enters program into computer system. Reviews results of computer runs with interested personnel to determine necessity for modifications or reruns. Develops new subroutines or expands program to simplify statement, programming, or coding of future problems. May coordinate activities of computer programmers.

Bioinformatics Programmer Analyst

Organizes and directs staff in computing applications in a medical facility. Researches and studies areas in the medical field including sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression, protein-protein interactions, and the modeling of evolution. Serves as an analytical assistant for multiple investigators and projects involving genetic association studies of cancer and related outcomes. Manages large genetic data files and conducts statistical analyses using off-the-shelf and custom tools. Implements and runs analysis scripts under supervision of senior consultants, faculty statisticians, project bioinformaticians, and other investigators.: Uses computing resources to solve problems on scales of magnitude far too great for human discernment. Develops or uses techniques, including applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, chemistry, and biochemistry, to extract useful information from data produced by high-throughput biological techniques, such as genome sequencing, and solve biological problems, usually on the molecular level. Develops and designs an interface for a medical facility, including but not limited to monitoring project status, identifying and resolving problems which may impact the project results, maintaining software and hardware, working with departmental leadership on developing and implementing policies, and consulting with departmental leadership regarding application alternatives, security, software usage, capacity planning, training, recovery, and backup procedures. Creates statistical software tools for analyzing large genomic data, and assists with overall software maintenance and development. Develops, maintains, and enhances the organization's software architecture. Interacts with collaborators at a medical research laboratory. Adds statistical/bioinformatics tools to existing software. Works with users to resolve errors and bugs in current released versions.
