Childbirth Educator

Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and administers the childbirth education program. Designs and implements health education programs designed to increase awareness and knowledge to patients planning to give birth. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing, two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in obstetrics, and certification in childbirth education.: Determines the educational needs of the expectant family in collaboration with the childbirth coordinator and other instructors and assistants. Utilizes program outline and objectives and secures customer evaluation for all classes taught. Uses a variety of teaching methods to teach childbirth and parenting classes and seeks qualified substitute instructors when emergencies arise. Gives input to coordinator with suggested program changes, additions, or improvements that reflect stated or assessed needs of clients. Maintains current competency and certification in the provisions of childbirth classes. Assists in the development and preparation of new instructors, as requested. Keeps abreast of changes in labor and delivery technology to keep program material current.

Diabetes Educator CDE

Utilizes nursing processes and American Diabetes Association guidelines to initiate and promote ongoing diabetes management for diabetes patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or health education and three years of health education experience as well as certification as a Certified Diabetic Educator.: Initiates and promotes ongoing diabetes management for non-insulin and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients. Collects comprehensive patient health data and critically analyzes assessment data in determining or confirming the diagnosis or problem list. Identifies expected clinical outcomes from assessment data and diagnosis or problem list and individualizes expected outcomes with the patient and with the health care team. Develops a comprehensive plan of care that includes interventions and treatments to attain expected outcomes. Initiates or implements interventions and treatments for the plan of care. Provides comprehensive clinical coordination of care and case management. Implements strategies, interventions, and teaching to promote, maintain, and improve health among individuals, families, groups, and communities who have or are at risk for diabetes. Provides in-service training and education to ensure competence of staff providing diabetes management. Develops, organizes, and distributes diabetes educational resources and materials. Adapts and implements information, campaigns, and education programs to meet the needs of high risk populations in the service area.

Community Health Educator

Plans, organizes, and directs health education programs for group and community needs: conducts community surveys and collaborates with other health specialists and civic groups to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of professional health services. Develops and maintains cooperation between public, civic, professional, and voluntary agencies. Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials. Promotes health discussions in schools, industry, and community agencies. May plan for and provide educational opportunities for health personnel.

Nutrition Educator

Assists clients in devising and carrying out weight-loss plan, using established dietary programs and positive reinforcement procedures. Interviews client to obtain information on weight development history, eating habits, medical restrictions, and nutritional objectives. Weighs and measures client, using measuring instruments, and enters data on client record. Discusses eating habits with client to identify dispensable food items and to encourage increased consumption of high nutrition, low calorie food items, or selects established diet program that matches client goals and restrictions. Explains program and procedures that should be followed to lose desired amount of weight, and answers client questions. Reviews client food diary at regular intervals to identify eating habits that do not coincide with established or agreed upon dietary program, and reviews weight loss statistics to determine progress. Counsels client to promote established goals and to reinforce positive results.: May photograph client during therapy to provide visual record of progress. May conduct aversion therapy, utilizing electric shock, rancid odors, and other physical or visual stimuli to promote negative association with food designated for elimination from diet. May conduct positive conditioning therapy sessions, utilizing physical and visual stimuli to promote positive association with foods designated for increase in diet. May give client weight-loss aids, such as calorie counters, or sell nutritional products to be used in conjunction with diet program.

Public Health Educator

Plans, organizes, and directs health education programs for group and community needs: conducts community surveys and collaborates with other health specialists and civic groups to ascertain health needs, develop desirable health goals, and determine availability of professional health services. Clinical Educator

Plans and conducts a variety of in-service orientation programs, educational programs, and educational services for clinical personnel in a hospital or medical facility to meet competency assessment requirements in conformance with departmental objectives and accreditation standards. Orients new staff at appropriate levels, from new graduates to nurses in new areas and specialists coming in new to the facility.: Coordinates educational programs for an assigned service line. Assesses educational needs of the learner and develops plans for learning experiences appropriate for meeting recognized needs. Provides general competency courses, as well as specialized courses for specific areas. Evaluates the effectiveness of instructional programs and makes recommendations for program content revision. Develops and/or assists in development of educational programs, presentations, and/or patient education materials. Plans and prepares curriculum content and course outlines in conformance with program objectives and accreditation standards. Modifies and updates existing educational programs and/or patient education materials or recommends modifications as appropriate. Maintains liaison with administration and departmental representatives in planning seminars, workshops, educational programs and related activities. Participates in the recruitment and selection of personnel to attend educational programs. Assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment, supplies, work areas, and facilities; requisitions supplies and equipment as needed for instruction; selects and organizes teaching aides to include films, slides, charts, nursing supplies, and equipment to demonstrate improved methods of patient care; and maintains required departmental records, reports, and statistics as appropriate. Keeps abreast of new developments in training techniques, methods, and programs for possible application by health organization’s education program.

Health Educator

Instructs individuals and families in health education and disease prevention in community health agency. Creates, controls, and ensures that health care information is distributed to staff education and outreach programs. Develops and implements research programs that promote and create healthy lifestyles for enrollees. Visits homes to determine patient and family needs, develops plan to meet needs, and provides nursing services. Requires RN license.: Instructs family in care and rehabilitation of patient and in maintenance of health and prevention of disease for family members. Gives treatments to patient following physician's instructions. Assists community members and health field personnel to assess, plan for, and provide needed health and related services. Refers patients with social and emotional problems to other community agencies for assistance. Teaches home nursing, maternal and child care, and other subjects related to individual and community welfare. Participates in programs to safeguard health of children, including child health conferences, school health, group instruction for parents, and immunization programs. Assists in preparation of special studies and in research programs. Directs treatment of patient by lower-level nursing personnel. Cooperates with families, community agencies, and medical personnel to arrange for convalescent and rehabilitative care of sick or injured people. May specialize in one phase of community health nursing, such as clinical pediatrics or tuberculosis.

Textile Stylist

Originates designs for fabrication of cloth, specifying weave pattern, color, and gauge of thread, to create new fabrics according to functional requirements and fashion preferences of consumers: develops new ideas for fabrics, utilizing knowledge of textiles and fashion trends. Consults with technical and merchandising staff to obtain design ideas, and to estimate consumer acceptance of new types of fabrics. Sketches designs for patterns on graph paper, using water colors, brushes, pens, and rulers, or prepares written instructions to specify details, such as finish, color, and construction of fabric. Examines fabricated sample on loom and modifies design as required. May be designated according to product designed as rug designer (carpet & rug); woven-label designer.
