Develops academic policies and programs for college or university: directs and coordinates activities of deans and chairpersons of individual colleges. Advises on personnel matters. Determines scheduling of courses and recommends implementation of additional courses. Coordinates activities of student advisors. Participates in activities of faculty committees, and in development of academic budget. Advises president, educational institution on academic matters. Serves as liaison officer with accrediting agencies which evaluate academic programs. May serve as chief administrative officer in absence of president, educational institution. May provide general direction to librarian (library); director of admissions; and registrar, college or university.
Provides advising services to students to promote personal growth, academic and career planning, and decision making. Assists, guides, and motivates college students to realize professional and educational goals. Monitors academic success of students, including GPA, SAP, graduation progress, midterm warnings, and student honors. Provides student advocacy to resolve issues that affect student satisfaction. Advises student in all phases of academic and career planning, including program and course information, scheduling, registration, transfer requirements, articulations with other educational institutions, and graduation requirements.: Advises, coordinates, and refers students with specific learning needs regarding the identification and utilization of support services. Collaborates with Admissions Department staff to monitor program capacity, assist in student admissions, and monitor student progress. Conducts recruitment, orientation, and retention activities for traditional and non-traditional students, visits high schools and businesses/industries, attends college fairs, conducts campus tours, etc. Advises student organizations and assists with student activities. Participates and assists in special events such as serving as multicultural liaison, community outreach work, etc.
Develops programs to evaluate capabilities of students in various subjects. Welcomes students and their families to the program and establishes rapport and determines what services are needed. Coordinates the answering of questions and facilitates the start, re-entry, or completion of classes. Maintains contact and fosters motivation of students from the time of matriculation through graduation by utilizing school and community resources. Assists students with academic and attendance issues including mentor assistance, tutoring, and other academic support services. Helps students in selecting courses with the appropriate level of study. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty, two to four years of administrative experience or experience in student affairs, customer service, counseling/advising or related area, and familiarity with financial aid, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.: Works closely with the Dean and Faculty Advisors in a college/university, along with the Registrar and Financial Aid personnel. Provides immediate assistance to those seeking financial aid as part of the admission process. Manages the supplemental instruction program, including organizing and scheduling SI groups. Manages the academic mentor program, manages the general tutoring program, and recruits, trains, and manages students as supplemental instruction leaders, academic mentors, and tutors. Coordinates preparation of and administers standardized exams. Assists with student retention strategies. Identifies at risk students and then contacts each student to assist them in returning to successful class participation. Maintains the student referral system ensuring that students requiring assistance with financial, academic, technical or career services issues receive the required assistance. Creates and maintains a list of community agencies and social services in order to refer students when issues require trained counseling. Investigates student complaints and prepares initial report for presentation to the program Dean. Keeps information current on students, such as mailing addresses, in order to coordinate mailing of grades, textbooks, etc. Performs additional support tasks as assigned by the Dean.
Responsible for directing teaching and research programs delivered within a hospital or health system.: Oversees and directs the clinical education of medical students, residents and fellows. Manages relationships with medical schools and oversees residency programs. Promotes research interest among the faculty. Directs specialty training programs for residents and fellows. Recruits faculty for recommendations to the Chairman when positions are available. Responsible for disseminating information to faculty and staff. Encourages faculty participation in departmental activities. Routinely reviews budgets, expenditures, professional charges, receipts and departmental activities. Develops and maintains the operations of an integrated network of affiliated physicians. Develops, maintains and monitors the departmental budget. Provides leadership in planning, developing, administering, and evaluating the academic programs of the organization. Ensures compliance with the standards of accrediting agencies and effectively and efficiently implements the responsibilities for accreditation reviews. May supervise physician chairs of clinical departments.
