Plans, organizes, and directs activities for the duration of one shift of hospital nursing unit. Observes techniques of, and services rendered by, nursing staff or provides nursing care for patients in unit. Demonstrates techniques for nursing students and/or new personnel to provide training and direction. Requires RN license.: Identifies problem areas in nursing unit, such as understaffing, absenteeism, and wastefulness, and takes corrective action. Monitors use of supplies and equipment to avoid abuses and requisitions supplies. Responds to various departments requesting emergency assistance and assigns staff accordingly during emergencies. Adjudicates civil cases in which damages do not exceed prescribed maximum established by state law, and minor misdemeanor cases not involving penitentiary sentences or fines in excess of maximum amount allowed to be levied under state law. Conducts preliminary hearings in felony cases to determine whether there is reasonable and probable cause to hold defendant for further proceedings or trial by superior court. Directs and coordinates activities of subordinate managerial personnel involved in operating retail chain stores in assigned area: interviews and selects individuals to fill managerial vacancies. Maintains employment records for each manager. Terminates employment of store managers whose performance does not meet company standards. Directs, through subordinate managerial personnel, compliance of workers with established company policies, procedures, and standards, such as safekeeping of company funds and property, personnel and grievance practices, and adherence to policies governing acceptance and processing of customer credit card charges.
