Overview Atlanta-based Arrow Exterminators was founded in 1964 by James S. (Starkey) Thomas Sr. and his wife Imogene (Jean). Previously Starkey had been an Orkin employee of long-standing and had managed their Atlanta Termite Branch for many years. When the company was purchased by the Rollins family, Starkey and Jean decided to go into business for themselves. The Thomas Family opened the doors to Arrow Exterminators in 1964 and never looked back. Immediately the tenacious couple capitalized on Atlanta's housing boom by targeting the termite pretreat market. Through providing termite protection to new construction Arrow was able to introduce itself to the consumer. They surmised the pretreat would generate additional business through annual renewals and pest control services. With this philosophy Arrow began its rise to become the largest independent termite and pest control company in the state of Georgia and one of the ten largest public or private termite and pest control companies in the United States.

Starkey and Jean's oldest son Joe (James S. Thomas Jr.) joined the family business after graduating from the School of Business at the University of Tennessee in 1972. Joe worked side by side with his mom and dad as they laid the ground-work for a first-class organization. In 1978, at the age of 67, Starkey Thomas passed away, leaving the reins in the able hands of Joe who assumed the leadership of Arrow as CEO.

The 1980's, with a booming national economy, were a time of rapid growth for Arrow. By the mid 1980's Joe had led the company to its' beginning "expansion stage". In February 1985, Arrow opened its' first Branch Office in Lilburn, GA. Two years later, Arrow opened another office in Woodstock, GA. This was soon followed by branches in Fayetteville, Lithia Springs, Cumming, Lawrenceville, Alpharetta, Conyers, Buckhead, Canton, McDonough and Duluth. Today, there are over 18 offices serving the greater Atlanta area.

In 1988, Arrow made its first true acquisition when it purchased Douglas Pest Control and merged it into the Fayetteville location. Shortly after that, Arrow jumped state lines for the first time by acquiring Mayfield Pest Control, and opening its first Tennessee office in Chattanooga. Today there are 6 Branch Offices serving Tennessee. It was the Douglas acquisition that marked the beginning of 65 acquisitions over a twelve-year period! And Arrow is not done yet...

Two years after its first acquisition, Arrow again looked beyond state boundaries, this time looking southward to Florida. Hughes Exterminators became Arrow's first acquisition in the Florida market as Arrow opened in Sarasota using the well-recognized Hughes name. There are now 7 branch offices operating throughout Florida.

In 1998 from the position of a preeminent regional company, Arrow looked even farther beyond its boundaries and chose Casey's Pest Control in Phoenix, AZ. to begin fulfilling its national destiny dreams. Arrow continues to be attuned to possible acquisitions throughout the United States, having just acquired All Pro Exterminators in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Today, Arrow's vision of becoming one of the largest privately held pest control companies in the nation is clearly within reach. The company continues to expand through internal growth and acquisitions with revenues exceeding $63,000,000. Arrow continues to be run by the Thomas Family and remains dedicated to fulfilling the dreams that Starkey and Jean Thomas had when they began the journey almost forty years ago.
