A director is a senior executive of a department or even an entire company. These people are basically the “big boss” or main person in charge of their respective department or all departments. There are director positions for just about every sector of the economy but they all have similar functions. At the end of the day, directors are the people who are responsible for the activities carried out and revenue earned by their department, organization, or company.
To make sure that goals are being met, they need to effectively manage budgets, employees, and any other factor under their control. Depending on their position, this could also include marketing, advertising, purchasing and distribution of products. It could also include security, and human resources. Of course a director can’t do all of this, so multiple other people are hired to fill these roles. A number of managers, analysts, and specials to name a few are hired to work under the director to ensure the proper functioning of departments and sub-departments. They report to the director, and the director makes decisions based on what he or she is told. Essentially, they are responsible for coordinating all activities placed under their jurisdiction to ensure that company goals are met.
