St. Aloysius Orphanage

HQ: Cincinnati, OH   |
Overview

Development of the organization began in 1832 by Father John Martin Henni and was officially established in 1837 to aid the homeless children left as a result of a cholera epidemic. In 1861 St. Aloysius Orphanage moved to its current location in Bond Hill and the orphanage was run by the Sisters of Notre Dame for 130 years.

St. Aloysius has evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of the community and today, serves as a pro-active resource to children and families in the Greater Cincinnati area. We are an independent, non-denominational social service agency assisting children with mental and behavioral health problems through a number of different programs.

St. Aloysius is not a place you strive to send your child. In fact, in many cases it is the last resort. Our programs and services are for children whose parents don't know where else to turn. The children here have been referred to St. Al's by their local school due to mental and behavioral health problems. The staff members work closely with these very troubled children to prepare them to transition back to their local school and be successful again. But in most cases, this is no easy task. Counselors, therapists, teachers and caseworkers strive to provide excellent care and guidance to these high-risk children.
